Pop (or Soda) Cans

I'll keep this really short.

I'll have a Pop (or Soda) every here and there, maybe a few times a week and my YSGCC really likes to bite the can.

i make sure he doesnt chew the part thats been on my mouth, but I'm just making sure it's alright for him to chew it.

Can I let him chew on the can or should I stop him?

I may be wrong, but I believe that aluminum cans contain trace amounts of other elements, like magnesium and iron. If memory serves, iron is one of the heavy metals that causes poisoning in birds. I’m not sure how much would cause issues, and you may want to do more thorough research, but another risk may be that if he tears or punctures the can he could slice himself.

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me to allow him to chew metal cans. There are a gazillion better chew toys than a metal can. If you don't want to spend money, just give him a small cardboard box -- he can chew it and/or use it as a nest or private place (mine does). I've found that my [clean] paper "trash" (boxes, napkins, paper towels, string, packing paper, etc.) .... can become his toys. If it’s the “shiny object” of the can that attracts him, substitute a bell or some other shiny bird toy.

I've posted this short video clip before, but here is one with a box, vitamin jar and napkin for birdie's play-space on top of his cage. It's not sexy or pretty but it's become his favorite thing.

Aluminum commonly has a fair sized list of Stuff that it contains. That said, those items are fully blended into the mass. Short of grinding it into a powder and eating a quarter of the powder from a single can is far more volume than what a lifetime of scrapping would ever provide.

My concern falls along the line of first, the very sharp edges of the pop top and a damaged cracked openings. And second, the overload of the sugar contain of the cola itself found near the opening.

Why do birds like to play with metal? It's the smooth, cool surface and they are drawn too.

Work to expand you Parrots tactile joys to other surfaces like soft wood.
