Hi guys
This is my first post. I am a bit concerned about my new pineapple green cheek conure. Since I got him, he is very clingy once I have him in my hands, usually the morning and evening. He will sleep there for hours, but once he flies away, he is terrified of me! I am training him to come closer in his own time using his favorite treat. Has anyone experienced this before? Does this mean that he's been handreared but is not tame?

I'm sorry you haven't received a reply yet. The behavior you describe is not unusual. Everything is new. It's no uncommon for them to feel safe in their cage after the first day, but fearful of you. Once they are outside of the cage, you are the next, most familiar object. It doesn't hurt that you look like a small tree to them. They like being up high. Just go slow and don't push beyond his comfort level (observed as the bird leaning away, walking or flying away).

There's a good thread on building trust. Tips for Bonding and Building Trust.
