Does your Conure hate brooms too?

So we've been experiencing that Quincy hates the broom. Today my wife was sweeping and Quincy flew to her and attacked her. He bit her really hard...hard enough to cause a bruise on her arm.

He's has went into attack mode with me too when I had the broom.

Just wonder if others have this problem.

I don't have this problem with a broom but a mop is in top of the scarest things in Zenek's life. He doesn't attack it because this is too scary and always escapes with a big scream

Oh yes. The broom, a long handled cobweb duster, the floor mop, anything that looks remotely like a snake like a length of rope and hosepipe, a carrier bag with big red blobs on it. He doesn't mind the vacuum cleaner and will sit on my shoulder while I use it. Before I reveal the others I tuck him up safely in his cage and he can screech at me from a distance.

Lol- Noodles used to be scared of them-- she still dislikes them, but now she just kind of backs away. When I adopted her initially though, she would slam into things if she saw one. I found that labeling it and and saying "I'm getting the broom" helped. Initially, I swept things farther away and gradually moved closer ---I also kept it pretty close to the ground when walking with it. Now I can sweep under her without much of a reaction. She never was flying at me, so that may or may not help you (and she's not a conure) but that's what helped here.

Thanks for everyone's input. My wife is still mad at him for biting her....she told me that she leaned the broom up against his cage yesterday....lol

my birds are fine with it but something like a black pot/pan sends them jumping away, I think every bird just seems to invent a phobia.....I dunno

Remember, when a parrot bites, it’s always the fault of the human. He bit her because the other warnings he gave her weren’t getting her attention. He was trying to get her away from danger. We know the broom won’t hurt us, but obviously he doesn’t.

And I hope your wife didn’t lean the broom against his cage in retaliation.

My Conure is perfectly happy with broom, vacuum, duster, etc. As long as she gets to sit on my shoulder and supervise. It's just possible that she does consider them scary, but likes that I'm in charge of them... and She's in charge of me!

Broom - infinite hate. Vacuum cleaner - HOW COOL, let me sing along, do the happy dance and help with general supervision.
