Well, I'm done with her. I let her out off the cage yesterday, went to the office and came back to multiple holes in my Zinus. Did you have such an experience?

Sorry to know your conure damaged a mattress. As shocking as this may have been, please assume responsibility for allowing an unsupervised parrot unfettered access to your home. Chewing is a natural behavior and your bird unfortunately chose an expensive item.

OMG !! This is funny,no matter who you are. Any bird owner knows a bird is like a 2 to 5 year old kid, mentally (for 1). if they can get into a mischief of any kind (2). iF IT'S SOMETHING you really wish they didn't do; it's coming. ROFL, being a bird owner and trainer are terms for us; they are the boss after all. jh

Oh dear. When you have kids at the toddler stage which is where conures stay we know that if they are quiet or alone too long something terrible is often the result. I guess if it was a dog the damage would be even worse. It's a tough lesson but please don't punish your little one. He was only doing what comes naturally. It's a quick learning curve for you though I'm afraid.

Yeah, I’m with Scott on this. They say, when potty training a dog, if they have an accident in another room, don’t smack the dog out of punishment. Smack your own self for not paying attention. Same thing applies here.

I always am on high-alert with my bird-- I once left her while I was taking a shower at my parents' house (thinking there was no way for her to get off of the perch she was left on---not because she can't fly, but because she chooses not to 99% of the time). Anyway, opened the bathroom door (post shower) to see her trotting down the hall towards me. She will get into anything she wants when unattended (especially something like a mattress or clothing). It's not your bird's fault (even though it is frustrating).

Are you serious? You seriously let your bird Out of her cage and then just Went off to the office? I really hope that I'm misunderstanding you. Or perhaps there was some in-between time, perhaps you really tried and couldn't get her in but eventually had to leave? Something like that?
But if not, then I hope that by "Well I'm done with her" that you mean you have found someone more responsible to care for your bird! Why would you ever Just let a bird Out of the cage & then just Leave? ???"

It is your fault for not watching the bird. Birds are like kids and will destroy stuff if left alone. My umbrella cockatoo Baby broke a iPad Pro by flying to it and tossing it on the floor all in a split second when I looked away from her. She hates phones and tablets as she figures talking on it, or looking at video, then paying attention to her at the time.
Take it as a expensive lesson learned and dont leave your bird unsupervised.

Don't be too hard. Many of us fall into the trap of trusting our owners. I trusted Syd until yesterday when he took a lump out of me because he took exception to my changing the water in his sleep cage. It wasn't even bedtime! He wasn't going to go in it! I just wish he would slap my hand or something instead.
If this guy left his bird alone free while he went out then it is a lesson learned. His bird could have done something worse and died. We all make mistakes. I am just a little fearful that he has punished his bird some way. I wish he would come back and let us know the outcome.

We forgive you. It certainly isn't like we haven't been guilty of this; to some degree, at one time or another. Being the owner / teacher is a matter of perspective between people and pets. People often get it wrong. lol Let us know that you have put some limits on the bird when you go out and don't write us off for not agreeing. Agreeing might come if we had a similar experience BUT we are teasing about your immediate response. jh

Sorry to bother you all. Just wanted to let it out. Nope, that's not repairable but I can sleep on it. There's a few pieces of fabric missing. Hopefully, that was not that expensive mattress

When you said "I am done", did you mean momentarily, or long-term. We all know what it is like to have something important destroyed (that freaking sucks...) but we also want to make sure that the bird is okay. Can you keep him/her knowing that this may happen again and that vigilance is key?

Sure that was just a moment thing. I just could not imagine that the bird would do that, googling for a new mattress right now, there are tons of cheap mattress reviews, here is the one https://www.talkaboutsleep.com/best-mattress-under-500/, I bought my previous one from there. Probably I just need a no-fiber mattress topper with thick fabric. I won't see those holes, and my birdy won't chew it anymore
