Creative Play Ideas?

I have discovered that Milo’s FAVE toy so far is those bamboo finger traps... so much so that he already ate 2 of the 10 I had on hand for him [emoji54]

He seems uninterested in wooden/plastic foot toys, and I have these very hard rubber toys called “pokey balls” he doesn’t care for, either. At breeders house he loved the cat balls but so far shows no interest here. I’m sure this will all change as he settles in.

In the meantime, any ideas for keeping him happy and occupied while we play? I like to be pre-informed so I know what to do I’ve only ever played with conures at the store I used to work at, and back then I only had a few minutes to play each day as I had other things to do. All my smarts are book smarts not experience, with conures. [emoji851]

He doesn’t care for his play gym just yet. Hasn’t been on top of his cage just yet. Loves a good game of target. And seems totally oblivious to the point of foraging toys.

If he were a puppy I’d say he’s teething, hahaha [emoji23]

Since we often don't let baby birds grow up and watch the flock they tend to be missing some crucial skills when it comes to foraging. We had a cockatoo who couldn't figure out foraging either. We started teaching her by having her sit with us and taking her favorite treat and having her watch as we draped a napkin over it. At first the treat was at the very edge of the napkin so she just had to stick a beak under the edge and tada food. Then, moved it to the middle, then folded, then twisted, and more increasingly complicated variations as she succeeded with each step. Now she destroys everything...so success...maybe...nothing is safe...like keyboards and various favored objects in the house:18:

Went searching for some of my old toy pictures. I used to make them for both the shelter and my birds. I've gotten out of the habit though and tend to buy most of my toys again:54:

Ohhh cute!!!!! Wonderful. I am going to be buying bulk toy making supplies, I was reading that you can train conures to “fetch” certain things so I thought it would be fun to teach him to make toys with me, ha ha! [emoji38] Or, at least, let him munch on the parts while I make them [emoji2957]

Often we found really cheap kid toys at the thrift store. Easy to clean and often looked barely touched. Not sure its an option with everything going on right now but in the future. We found old toy figurines like the small dino & animal plastic ones, the connector plastic toys (I have no idea what they are called lol), foam blocks, connecting foam mat & foam letters, etc. For plastic you want the softer plastic. Not the hard plastic that kind of shatters into sharp edges if that makes sense?


I've never tried to teach them fetch but I know Monkey would have learned that in a hot minute. They are smart little things! I taught her to hold onto my finger then drop to hang upside down on command, lay on her back, and a few others I'm sure we have both forgotten.
