Hey everyone,

Looking for some insights. 3 weeks ago, my baby, Kiara, sprained her wing. I took her to the vet straight away. She had x rays done to confirm it’s a sprain. She’s on anti-inflammatories and doing well. Eating and drinking as usual. Personality as bright as ever. She still can’t extend her wing from the “elbow” down (shoulder is fully mobile).

I have an appointment for her on Saturday (earliest an avian specialist could see her), but just hoping someone who has had something like this with their baby can give me insights to the healing process, how long it took, any other information you can tell me.

Thank you!:yellow2:

Young Parrots have amazing abilities to recover.

As you know, the sprain is short of breaking of the bone, but include the over-extension of the muscles. It is not uncommon for there to be some splitting or cracking of the bone.

As your first Vet visit with the x-rays included a discussion regarding the findings and care of your Parrot over the next couple of months.

Your upcoming visit will likely be a determination of your Parrot's recovery of motion since the last visit.

It is very important to always ask for a written document of the visit covering the findings and recommendations. Commonly, most Vet Clinic's like send such a document by email as if gives the Vet time to write it and have it sent.

Thank you, SailBoat. My vet did give me a print out of care instructions, which was really helpful, because I admit, I was a little frazzled and stressed. I’m praying for a quick recovery, because she loves her baths and you can see she’s not enjoying them as much as she used to. :(

Happy that you got the medical document. We all get crazed during a Vet visit, especially when our Parrot has been hurt or ill. Long ago, my CAV told me to always request the visit document. Welcome to the family. :D

FYI; Fine mist sprayed into the air above your Parrot and allowed to fall lightly upon you Parrot...
