Cinco De Mayo fears

I know parrots are not supposed to be fed avocado. But does anyone have a feel for how toxic avocados can be? Today I made a Cinco De Mayo lunch. This involved making some Mexican corn that was sauteed in avocado oil. Now my conure did eat any but she did get a couple of bites of my flour tortilla shell. She always demands to eat what I am eating.

It was halfway through the meai that I remembered about avocado oil with the corn. I got lucky as she loves corn that is often included in her fresh veggie and fruit brekkie.

Where I live, there are plenty of avocado trees and I can get free or almost free avocados year round. I love to eat them but careful my birds aren't given a bite. I am hoping to hear from some expertise here about just how dangerous avocados are for the birds? I get the chemicals and metals in our cooking utensils. But avocados are a natural fruit and I am sure they are found in their native habitat in the tropics.

Hi
While avocado's are a definite no no, I think the amount that would have been present in those bites will be very little. Monitor for any signs and research online for more information

Keep a very close eye on your bird. I would call a vet to be on the safe-side and make them aware of the situation, just in case.
"Avocado trees (Persea americana) and their fruit contain the chemical persin, a type of fatty acid derivative. When birds eat persin, it can cause them to become unable to perch or lead to trouble breathing, warns the Pet Poison Helpline."
