One and only peach faced superstar conure!
I just got a two year old conure from someone who could not keep him. He is a lovely bird and is very attached to his previous owner. He probably misses him a lot. Last night he wasn't silent for a second and kept making some sad noise (at least it seemed to me). He has food from my hand and comes on my shoulder once or twice but doe not let me touch him. He is scared of me for the obvious reason. Please suggest how I should make him comfortable. He is a peach faced conure.

I am 71, married and fairly private. I have PM privileges but prefer the phone. Printed messages, are so limited. jh
Sit and speak to it, in a quiet voice; several times a day. Every so often feed it a treat in a dish for that. Once you get it a response, start target training in the cage. Read "FORUM" topics here and on youtube.com by searching the search window, as parrot touch training. Patience !!! It often takes time. jh

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. He came on my shoulder twice today in the morning but later refused to come close to me. He eats from my hand and Try to communicate with him in a low voice calling his name. I do treat him well for while I do that. Hopefully he will get used to me in a while. I will also look for the touch training you have suggested. Thanks again.

Be patient, it takes time for trust and then friendship. He is sad now and wonders where his old flock/friend has gone. He is not sure if he will always be with you and you will have different ways, a different voice, different clothes. Everything is strange, so talk gently hand feed if he will and slowly and surely he will relax. Don't rush him let him make the moves.

Thanks a lot. Yes patience is the key. He, however, is a very nice bird. He is scared of me for the obvious reason but he accepts food from me and also has come on my shoulder twice today. He doesn't let me touch him but that's absolutely okay. Lot of progress within a day's time. Will keep you all posted. Thanks again.

Just a quick question, is that bird in your profile pic what you are regarding as your 'Sun Conure' that is written in your Bio
Just wondering as it is a peach fronted conure instead............. No harm in asking

You are absolutely right. He is a peach faced one. I had one sun conure before and unfortunately he passed away a few years back. I did not change my bio for long but the pic is in my bio is updated two days back :D He is Kiwi. My love.

You sound like a wonderful, caring person, and that bird sounds like a darling. I predict great things.
Meanwhile, I'm so glad you're here. There are good people, good advice, and good humor to help you along.
I recommend the Search engine above for lots of good reading. And here is a link we often recommend to folks.

Stay with us. :)

You are a superstar :D Thank you! Of course I will be here. My earlier sun conure died and now I have this peach faced energy ball after very very long. I feel so content. Thanks for sharing the link. I am a bit concerned if conures constantly chirp or make some noise. Mine never stops. Even at night. The first day he sounded very sad, but now it's not like that. But he won't stop mumbling in a soft voice. If you have any suggestions lease let me know. Thanks a lot.
