Conure Beak Peeling?

I adopted Cookie less than a week ago and I’ve noticed its beak looks different than most pictures I’ve seen of Conures. Cookies diet consists of chop, pellets and seeds only as treats. I got some non toxic toys which Cookie has started to play with as well, chewing and such. Has a good appetite and doesn’t seem to be inconvenienced at all. I did clean the cage with water, lemon juice, and baking soda and wiped it down really good after with hot water so not sure if that has anything to do with it. Is this just peeling or does it look like something is wrong with the beak? Cookie is 1.5 years old.

Cookie looks perfectly normal and very very cute to me.

Yoda's beak looked like that once and I took him to my avian vet. Dr E said it was normal and healthy and he did a little beak maintenance to smooth it out and dull the point a little. You should definitely have an avian Vet see Cookie for a basic check/test for health and any illnesses anyway. Once per year for a checkup is also recommended.

Thank you so much for the advice. I will definitely get Cookie to the vet for a check up. I don’t know the health history and I’ve seen lots of people saying to get one done to make sure nothing is wrong in general.

- Yup, your Parrot is suffering from common beak growth, which results in occasional chipping /peeling /flaking of the beak.
- The goal of having your Parrot seen by an Avian Professional is to first establish a benchmark for your Parrot. As a result, each future test can be compared to that benchmark. It also provides a quick verification 'when' you show-up with a very sick Parrot, which allows your targeting care as compared to wide investigative testing.
- Note: the term 'seed' has become a catch-all term for Sunflower Seeds. In fact, a health, full spectrum of grass, etc. seeds, grains and quality nuts is in fact very healthy for your Parrot and should be part of a well-rounded dry food side of your Parrots diet.
