Lol!!! As soon as I read the subject line for this thread, I thought to myself, "I wonder if he uses coasters on top also... That's actually just one of the things I've been forced to do.
1. Everything I drink must have a lid
2. If the container has any kind of a handle, I need to put it on the floor under the table or Yoda and Trigger will consider it a perch.
3. Coffee thermos cup doesn't have a handle, but it still needs to be on the floor because they seem to enjoy knocking those off of tables to get attention. :/
4. Tea can be enjoyed in a mug without a lid... but a coaster on top is needed.
5. Guard your silverware:

Two of mine couldn’t care less about coffee. Fang however has managed to land a fresh poop in my water glass during a low-flying strafing run.

As for HRH Lilly Pilly, EVERY drink of any kind gets the coaster treatment otherwise she’d be swimming in it in a flash!

Doobie, a Pineapple Green Cheek Conure baby about 6 weeks old (on May 11, 2020)
Oh my goodness! YES YES YES!
Doobie thinks everything I drink is for the both of us. At first I didn't mind, but now it is becoming really annoying!. I've been trying to get him to stay on top of his cage when the door is open (instead of on my head), but the coffee, lemonade, water, ANYTHING is way too enticing. I started letting him have a sip ONLY when he's on his cage, but apparently he doen't get it. He thinks he can have a sip anytime, anywhere he wants. I've created a monster.

I made some sorbet as I wanted a boozy slushy thing and to try and get albie awzy from the booze laced stuff I gave him a small spoon full in a cup with a little water so it was like mine.... He didn't want HIS because he wanted MINE! And his cup wasn't my cup even though they were the same cup he KNEW they weren't the same. Smart stubborn bird..

Ours will try to taste anything they see us eat or drink. I was driving home with a River, our turquoise, on my shoulder because he gets car sick. I tried to take a drink from my Yeti but he wouldn’t let me because he couldn’t have any.

My male eclectus will attack soda cans if they are near him. He just doesn’t like them.

With my wife's conure Echo it doesn't matter if you cover it or not. He'll sit on her shoulder and wait until the mug/glass is raised to the lips and then run down the arm and try to squeeze his head in next to her cheek to get some. Unless it's a glass of coke then he becomes more devious. He'll slowly work his way across the table and lick the condensation off the glass. Then he'll tap the class with his beak for a while. Then he'll wander off totally uninterested. Next thing you realise is he is hanging off of the lip of the glass trying to climb in.

With my kakariki nothing that is breakable, has liquid or is too easy to destroy is left in their path. The pair of them are a destructive storm of noise and feathers the whole time they are loose. They are ADHD parrots and they take 100% of my focus to have out. No time for drinks, food or sitting down. One of them is always into something they shouldn't be.

You have totally described Albie!!!

It's funny when I have my mum round and when she refuses to cover her water, Albie is in, not so funny when he's after mine though!

So far today Syd has screeched until he had a piece of my breakfast and my lunch. He has tried hard to get his head into my glass of water earlier but interestingly he forgets about it when it is covered. I thought his intelligence would mean that he would know it was hidden and he would search for it. Obviously not. Thank goodness.

Hilarious! Most of my drinks are benign and a taste or two wouldn't hurt. However, my quadruple strength hot chocolate is strictly forbidden for avians!

Now that's interesting, Syd shows no interest at all in any hot drinks.

If I want a hot chocolate, albie has to be away, he would do anything for it!! He sits at which ever side of the cage I'm on chirping and squeaking at me for it!

LOL-- Mine tries to steal all drinks, which is why there is a no-unsupervised-drinks-on-the-table-when-she-is-perched-there rule LOL

I mostly run around moving drinks, phones, glasses etc as fast as I can, because when they are left...all is fair in Noodles' mind
