Nanday Conure
My nanday conure has recently been squawking every ten seconds no matter what I change/ try/ do. Shes usually pretty scared of a lot of things, which causes her to do her "omg wtf!!" yell, I can usually tell what is bothering her then or it at least only lasts 30 seconds and she gets over it. But this squawk is different, its just one squawk and it appears to be just to make noise tbh. Its also not her flock call.

I've tried firstly ignoring it, then resorted to... removing her from the room, removing ME from the room, changing up her toys to avoid boredom, making sure her food and water are especially clean and full, giving her attention/ picking her up. And she never stops...

I know birds aren't silent animals and I'm okay with *some* noise but it's to the point that I'm starting to lose my sanity and I don't want to spend my time around her, and I'm the only person she sees regularly.

(Also, yes I know, make a vet appointment. But shes a scared bird and I'm attempting to resolve it before putting her through the stress of the travel cage.)

Hi there!

No one on here is a Vet, but we can sometimes give advice on habits and such. If you give the members here more information about you and the parrot and descriptions of his day and situations and, well , the more info you give the better we'll be able to give you some advice to try.

How long have you had her? My first thought is that she is trying to tell you Something. I have no clue what - but my Sunny will come up with some sort of new sound if she wants to tell me about something, and what you're describing sounds like a similar approach. It could be something about her, or her health, or her cage or the room or maybe something else entirely. But usually if my Sunny wants to inform me of something she will keep it up like that, fairly consistently, until I figure it out correctly.

Anyway I don't know your bird, obviously. And there are a lot of details not provided so I could be way-off-base. However Nandays and Sun's are not so-very dissimilar.... so, that is my top-of-the-head guess.

Only a week? Okay I entirely retract my above comment. You two don't know each other yet - specifically, she does not know you. The sounds she is making could mean anything, or nothing. Conures Can Be Loud.

I understand your desire to Not-Stress her further. However, IF she has not already had a vet-checkup since being found, then she Does Need one. She will get over the stress. She really does need checked for health issues that could have occurred due-to or during her lost-time.

(Also - can we assume you have checked websites, vets, etc., to see if anyone is looking for this lost bird?)

Sorry things got mixed up, the behavior has been a week, I've had her for 5 years. The person who found her checked to find the owners back then and couldn't find anyone, and shes been checked up

Ah I see. Yes okay then Ignore my second response, go back to my first. IF you cannot figure out what she might be trying to tell you, within a reasonable amount of time, OR if you see Anything else alarming ie stool change or other behavior changes etc, then you will still want to get her to a vet. Otherwise, at least for a short while, my Guess-only remains that she is trying to inform you about something.
