Mama to a baby pineapple green-cheeked conure!
Hi friends! :green:

I'm planning on adopting a GCC in the next month or two and have been doing a TON of research on caring for it in the best way possible. I'm a bit of a plant-crazy lady and noticed that a couple of my plants (my schefflera, dieffenbachia, and my pothos) are considered toxic to birds. I'm a bit attached to these plants but of course would be willing to get rid of them if it puts my little feathery friend's life at risk.

What I'm wondering is if I keep these plants in a room I never allow my bird to fly into if this would be considered safe? It's my understanding that these plants are only toxic if eaten, so if I supervise my birdy while he/she is out of the cage and don't allow it into the room with these plants if you think it'd be alright to keep the plants?

Please let me know what you think and thanks for your time :07:

As long as you are sure your bird can't get to them or the dirt.

Have you read about all of the sources of Teflon/PTFE/PFOA/PFCs and how they shouldn't be heated in the same house as a bird (not even on a separate floor)? They are hidden in things like space heaters, certain light bulbs, pans/pots/cookie sheets, drip trays, air poppers, microwave popcorn bags ,toaster ovens, irons, curling irons, straighteners, air fryers, griddles, coffee makers in some cases, toasters, heavy duty foil, etc, and they are often invisible (clear coat or internal).

Also, any scented products/standard cleaning products should also be avoided.

Since you said you researched a lot, I am guessing you know these things, but since you asked about the plant danger, I wanted to make sure you knew about the others as well

Also, never use a self cleaning function on your oven and make sure you have no Glade Plug-ins, scented oils, perfumes, air fresheners etc.
