Looking for the right home for a Conure

Hi all. I've just joined the forum after lurking for a while. With a bit of a heavy heart I'm looking to find the right home for a Conure which recently adopted us. I'll try to keep the story relatively short...

We're not bird folk at all, but my youngest son went back to Bristol University and while out for a walk with friends a Conure landed on his shoulder and wouldn't leave him! It stayed with him for around a month and he tried hard to find it's owner or a good home, without success. It would have been way too distracting for him to keep after his studies started so we collected it early September and have had it since. His neighbour kept parrots and we think it's a Pineapple Conure, probably a young male but we don't know for sure.

I have to say I've become really quite fond of the little chap. He's very sociable and amusing, loves flying around our conservatory and cuddles up most evenings while we watch TV. He has a playful nature and really seeks company. He likes to tunnel through my hands, roll over for a tummy tickle or get his chin scratched. He often falls asleep on me. We have only two problems with him. The first is finding someone to look after him when we go away. The second is the bigger problem - he makes very loud screeches and whistles when we're not in the room with him. My wife just can't take the noise, though she has tried hard.

I am NOT selling this bird. I want to find the right home for him, with an experienced owner or family to give him the attention he needs, ideally with other birds so he has the company of his own kind. If that home was relatively close by (South Yorkshire) so I could see him occasionally that would be ideal but all that matters is finding him the right home. While I respect the rights of people to make their own decisions, I don't agree with wing clipping and would be looking for an owner who agrees with this.

Please get in touch if you think you can help. I'm happy to bring him over and see if he blends in ok. I'll be really sorry to see him go, but will console myself if it means he's in the right place. I'll happily send pictures.

Regards

Hello RhythMick, welcome to the Forums, and thank you so much for taking care of this lost little birdie.

There may indeed be someone out there looking for him and they may have listed him on Parrot Alert - here is a link to their website that Laurasea has mentioned...

https://www.parrotalert.com/

I hope you are able to find his original owner, or at least a good home for him if you are not able to keep him yourself. Thank you so much for reaching out and for trying to help him!

We tried the parrot alert and similar sites at the time. However it's worth checking again.

EDIT: Checked again and no lost conures anywhere near Bristol in last 6 months. Nearest was south coast of Devon.

Aw, at least he found a family willing to help him and care for him in the interim.

There are a lot of users in conure groups on Facebook if you haven’t posted there already! I’ve seen a number of success stories there. Best of luck!

Thanks I'll look there. Problem is finding the right owner, but it's a good starting point.

That’s true! But hopefully the owner posted when lost, has photos, and can corroborate the story/timeline. Fingers crossed for a success story! Or happy forever home :)

I found on parrot alert a guy who lost his conure in Cardiff 18th July. 25 miles direct to Bristol, 13 days before ours was found. I don't think it's the same one from the photo but you never know so I've made contact.

Happy endings. The guy in Cardiff had found his bird, but his daughter has a pair and her mother in law wanted one after losing a parrot to old age.

5 happy conures, 3 happy homes and a delighted 8 year old who was missing the parrot.

Oh, how wonderful that he found a family! If memory serves, I posted about your found conure in a conures group on Facebook and had NO replies, so it’s heartwarming to hear he is with a family of bird lovers! (Not implying you don’t love birds, though!)
