Hey everyone, this week I got a 2.5 month healthy gcc. He has been very happy, and we have been cuddling and the bonding is going great so far. What I am slightly confused about though is the feeding situation (We hand feed). I'm not sure if I'm over feeding or I'm doing ok . We got a lot of opinions about this. We asked the breeder some questions as well and he said that we should let his crop (his belly that fills up whenever he's full), guide us, he also said that per day it's 40 ml max. He said what's really important is we don't give him too much in one session, and we push the syringe really slow. Every morning he screams to be given food pretty early, I feed him 10 ml, hold him and he relaxes gives some happy chirps and goes back to sleep. This is around 7am. A little while after that he wants more food his crop is pretty small and it's not lunch time yet. At around three he squawks for food, and I give him 10 ml. After a feeding for dinner and sometimes some more before that. I'm really worried about over feeding, sometimes I know for certain he's hungry because of the crazy running and jumping on me and screaming at me. Do any of you know if I'm feeding him too much, or could you share some of your own experiences dealing with baby bird food issues and how to solve them. I'm worrying and I don't want to start any unhealthy habits. (Also the feeding schedule I was describing was one day, it changes from day to day and I kind of go on his pace I'm just a new bird owner who's a little confused) Also what I'm thinking about doing is waiting a bit before giving him the food because according to someone who has a bird, baby birds will never refuse food and sometimes they want something else, which I understand and I think it works because I tried it. Is this a good idea? Also do you have any tips to prevent over feeding in the future? All advice is welcome and appreciated! Thank you.

At 2.5 months I'd have small pelllets available. Or those papaya treats, my conures love them. I said in your other post it's usually 3 months so I'd at least have them on hand so if bird get hungry, bird can try solid food.

I've never weened a GCC, but I read the books when I'm not eating the covers.
