Green Cheek Named Garth
Garth is about 6months old. Fantastic parrot, smart, veggie eater learning his name.
My thoughts are these.....
Lately he is playing under his papers in his cage or hides in my shirt, is that the dark place I need to avoid with him?
Why does he run his beak on a flat surface? like he shoveling snow?
When a parrot is aggressive with a toy, throws it down, beats on it, is that healthy? Do I get ride of toy or keep it around?

Thanks feathered friends

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
You can leave the toy for now, but this is all sounding very hormonal. ..LOL (WELCOME)

STOP letting him in shadowy spaces and you will see the aggression drop. You are sexually stimulating him lol! It's easy to do, but just pet on the head and neck only and no shadow spaces....paper piles, hollows, in drawers, in shirts, in cloth, on couches near pillow, under furniture, coconut hollows, happy huts, boxes (even shallow ones), partially covered cages during the day all are bad news.

10 hours sleep on a schedule is also very important for mood/hormones/immune system (wake-up and bed-time around the same time each day with 10-12 hours decent sleep in a quieter area without a bunch of light etc)

Beak rubbing can be a territory-claiming / sexual behavior, but it varies.

but like, the shirt, the papers, the nesting behavior....he's hormonal and you are on the cusp based on his age. Do not allow those sorts of shadowy spaces.
I'm not blaming you-- I'd say 99% of us have done the same at some point...but you both will be happier if you avoid it (even if your bird seeks it out)

I'm glad you guys have a good relationship and I'm sorry for my initial "no!" lol!!! I just looked back and though, wow, chill woman...

Thank you, What behavior is the beak running? The shirt thing I pull him out and thought aww he wants to {cuddle} then I realized what he might be doing
I just wanted to make sure, you see videos of people who cuddle with their birds and sleep with them.
I do appreciate you guys and your experience

Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
My little yellow shoulder Amazon does the beak running thing too, occasionally. Never noticed any direct correlation to anything or behavior. I think it just feels cool to them!
