Hey everyone, I noticed something a little different about Kiwi's poop today, SLIGHTLY URGENT PART: it was a normal color but their were no urates (the water around the poop learned that from google lol). My first thought was maybe he's dehydrated but that doesn't really make sense since he's been drinking water and water is always available. Also I'm not even close to an expert, so I would never make a medical "guess" and risk putting him in danger. Please tell me if this is normal or not because I've been pretty anxious about it :5_sad:. Oh and his poops have been normal since then. Should I forget about it since it's normal? Should I take him to the vet? He was acting completely fine and everything, very active and more or less a happy boy. Also what does it mean? Just to be extra clear his big morning poop was fine and the other ones were fine too. Please reply soon.

LESS URGENT: Another thing that happened today with Kiwi was during a zoom class, We were having a discussion and he started making these loud unhappy squawking noise, I was a little confused then He flew on to my key board tried to get my attention then onto me I started to stroke him and he stopped, and was showing me where to pet and everything it was adorable:) After that he was a happy boy and let me continue class, Is this a common behaviour? He's done it before too and as soon as I start to stroke him he stops. I peronally think he was a lil jealous or offended so I made SURE to apologize :p

When I researching conures I think I read that they are HUGE attention seekers but it was a while ago so I might be mistaken. Is this what they mean? Or does he think I'm neglecting him but I swear I'm not I spend all day with him and he's always my number 1 priority he lives on my shoulder (never against his will he flies up there), and is always out of the cage except of eating and sleeping the cage door is kept open during the day, and I really don't know what I'm doing wrong  Its not bothering me too much, it's def not about the noise, and birds will be birds, but I just want him to feel loved:D Also please don't hesitate to call me out on anything I'm doing wrong, I'm extremely willing to learn, and open to any constructive criticism, I want to keep learning and growing to make sure Kiwi has the best life possible.

Please reply soon about the poop I'm really worried about it. :(:(
Thank you

Also: I can elaborate more on the poop if it's necessary, and if u have any more questions about diet etc I can totally answer them.

poops can have some variation. Color is important was urine clear? Was fecal part formed?
Did you check weights? Knowing your burds normal weight and check weekly, daily if you think k something is up. More than 3% weight-loss see an avain veterinarian.

Attach pictures of poop. I'm not an expert poop watcher but I have a little knowledge in spotting issues, emphasis on little..

Some variation is normal depending on what has been eaten. Can you correlate the abnormal poop with something unusual or not frequently offered?

As Laura suggested, posting images may be helpful and keeping close track of weight helpful as early warning sign of potential illness.

I've been dealing with this with Francis too. about two months ago his poops got really dry. He also seemed to have a little more trouble getting them out than he used to. I was starting to worry about him getting a cloacal prolapse.

Most of my training with him has ceased until we get this under control. I've been trying to get more fiber and "squishy" stuff into his diet, like fruits. Ugh, he's so picky! But his poop has been much better recently so I think I'm getting close to a reasonable diet for him.

The color of the poop was brown and their was no urine. I think I messed up urine and urates. Basically the poop color was brown (like most of the time) and their was some white on top. And it was in the shape of a circle. I'm trying my best to describe it. Basically normal color only thing not normal was the lack of urine, and the shape. It also wasn't dry.

poops can have some variation.
I know but the color usually changes due to what he ate, and the urine usually stays the same - clear. So i'm just trying to confirm if that's normal or not.

I can't post an image of the poop, what happened was Kiwi pooped on me (we're trying to semi potty train him) I examined the poop and realized it didn't have any urine in it I tried to clean it up but it fell onto the ground and made a mess. Moral of the story I don't have a picture. Oh and I'm definitely getting a scale I don't have one rn and I'm trying to find one....

Not really. He didn't eat anything new he had: formula since he's a 4 month baby (and I'm weaning him) fresh veggies, a couple pellets and some seeds because we were training. I think at the time of the poop he just had some formula. Nothing new at all.

My birds poop with no urine many times. The white urates are kidney waste
. So kidney is working and producing waste.

Its good to be a poop watcher. And also a weigh watcher. Sick birds can't hide the weight loss, and most are going to loose weight when sick. Knowing my birds normal weight and tracking it helped identify sick birds before any other symptoms. Also I could react quickly with veterinarian and adjust medication when needed.

So I'm taking every opportunity to stress having a digital kitchen gram scale. Its an easy tool to help save your birds life.

16 weeks he should have weaned himself.....thats a very prolonged weaning. I think a vet check is in order.
Baby burd formula is high in protein, for growth. Thst high protein can be hard on kidney....

Ok thank you so much for telling me I feel very relieved now

Yes totally getting one thank you!

We're trying. We give it to him in a bowl and he refuses to eat anything except it when he's hungry for his last meal of the day and his morning meal, (thats the times we give him the formula) We asked the vet about it because we were concerned, and well it's a long easily summarize able story :D
So long story short it's being dealt with, with his avian vet ;)
PS: And we are going very little with the formula rn, and I'm hoping to take him to the vet today for a check up so that will be brought up and discussed even more

Thank you again :)
