Zazu the Green Cheek Conure
I have had my Green Cheek Conure for almost two years now. Her feathers were pretty blackened when I got her but Iā€™ve reduced so much of it after getting her from her original owner. My issue is that I need help on how to help get rid of the rest of the black marks in her feathers. Thereā€™s a few green feathers with black in the tips and then thereā€™s a little bit in her blue flight feathers. How can I help get rid of this? Please help.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Do you know the origin or cause of the markings? Environmental such as smoke/dirt/dust or do they grow discolored? Two completely different scenarios with possible medical implications.

The feathers can get black spots from the oils on our hands. Probably a well lived bird :)

I don't think that's true? I love on my birds for hours a day, their feathers are perfect. In 20 years of keeping parrots I've never had black spots on feathers. I have one parrot that was over preening when I got him and the edges of his feathers are dark from that. .

I apologize if I was spreading false info. Iā€™ve been told that multiple times but it appears to not be the case! Iā€™ve also read it could be a vitamin deficiency.

Great picture!! Yes usually over preening, or a burd with chronic health issues that is not molting out feathers. It takes a lot of energy and nutrients to make new feathers and molt. A bird with a bad diet, or chronic health issues won't molt, or will delay molting.
