I'm getting a sun conure soon (things keep happening and the date is now pushed to this weekend :() and she's still a baby, but I want to know, when a sun conure reaches 1-2 years of age and their temperament changes, how do you deal with it and help them get over it, and get back to being cuddly again?

Thanks!

Turns out my Loco is going through his first molt, he's about 6 months old and he's an angry little bird at the moment. Not looking forward to 1-2 years old that's all I can say hehe. I think a lot of patience and understanding. Sometimes I get so over Loco when he's all nasty and nippy but I just think "suck it up" and I deal with it. The worst thing you can do is neglect them and not get them out of their cage and I would think the same goes for sexual maturity. Obviously there is a balance though, everyone including birds need some space :)

Good luck :D

well if your prepared, then its not as bad as it reads:20:, i know nuts season is nov to feb, she is hell on a winged beak:11:

but since feb has gone she is a rather nice bird, though still nips etc, so i'd say brace yourself for a few months outta the yr for when they go all GRRRR, so i am slowly thinking ahead to what nov is going to bring this yr :)

but as adz said above do not ignore or shut out bird, it makes no differance to behaviour and could cause bird to think your mean! and space is important as in across the room etc lol

Makes sense! I'm definitely also needing some space from my parents lol. I'm not going to be a little kid forever . Should I still handle him/her as much as I usually do, but leave him alone if he doesn't want to sit with me?

Oh, okay! Is there anything I can do to get on her "good side"? Extra toys? :D Treats? Either I've never actually been nipped by a sun conure, or their nips just aren't that hard.. but at pet stores they like to chew on my fingers. Sometimes it does hurt so that it feels like my fingernail might actually break, but it never bleeds or anything. Whereas my brother's budgies.. before they were tamed, they used to bite down SO hard, they would rip chunks of skin off! My cockatiel doesn't nip unless you make him angry or annoy him, or if it's nighttime and he's tired and cranky :p. But he doesn't hurt at all. He just lunges at your finger over and over until you move it. I think sun conure bites are better than budgie bites because they're less of a pinch, and they're easier to get out of.

Oh like a cat toy? I'll find a good toy for her to take out her anger on, that's a good idea :D.
