Who knows?

It is perfectly possible! They say before such horrific natural disasters, the area affected has no birds to be found. Eerily silent, apparently.

Thinking so much of Japan just now, the papers are full of the devestation. Terribly sad.

I wonder if people there noticed and noted anything unusual BEFORE the quake.

Apparently they did before the last Tsunami.....maybe you don't have time to realise though. So sad.

Tsunamis are easy to predict.
An earthquake which moves water will produce waves.
Often water at shorelines will recede before tsunami waves arrive.
If I am on low land, and I learn of an earthquake, I would immediately warn others and head inland for slightly higher elevations.
In my wife's hometown of the port city of Yantai, China, I designated a nearby hill to which everyone should go.

Some claim that animals may somehow sense the conditions leading to earthquakes.
Having been in seismology, myself, any clues and precursors would be welcome.
My theory that full moons and new moons would cause stresses that releasearthquakes has led nowhere.
