Pineapple Green Cheek Conure
Hi all,

I'm a new owner of a 10 month-old pineapple conure. The previous owner fed him a mix of cockatiel seeds and millet. I've been reading that pellets are more nutritionally balanced, and would like to start mixing some into his diet. Does anyone have any recommendations as to which type/brand of pellets to purchase? Any help greatly appreciated = )

I'm trying with my sun conure.

Wait, Zupreem is the best? I was expecting people to say Harrison's or Roudybush. I have Zupreem! :D I bought them when I didn't know what type to buy, luckily I made a good choice, but why is it better than Harrison's and Roudybush?

Thanks, guys! I've been researching this topic for the past few weeks, and most people tend to like Zupreem. I will be buying some soon.

As far as adding fruits and veggies - - he's quite picky , so I'm still experimenting. He does, however, LOVE broccoli = )

Harrison's by far is the BEST that U can get for any bird. it is very hard 2 get birds to eat it though. That is why most people buy the Zupreem which is 2nd best IMO...:) Most birds will eat the Zupreem.

I took in a two year old conure who was from a rough home. Lulu is her name and she has come off a straight sunflower seed diet into a pellet seed diet. Occasionally will have a treat but she loves to eat the Nutri-Berries, Zupreem, and she loves broccoli too. Apples, carrots ,peas, bananas, black raspberries(make her look like she just killed something and ate it), mango and sometimes grapes. Has gotten much healthier. The stress bars are almost gone along with the bronzing too.

Mochi the Cinnamon GCC
Hatch date- June 4th 2015
Mochi came from a breeder that was very adamant about birds eating seeds so when I got him I transitioned him to Harrison's pellets. Fortunately Mochi will eat basically anything you put in front of him, so I had no problems with the switch. I hear from a lot of people that zupreem is pretty easy to switch birds onto. I've also been hearing a lot of good things about TOPs and am thinking about giving that a try.

By adamant do you mean you literally had a discussion and the breeder insisted that an all seed diet was the best? I have heard this from cockatiel and budgie breeders (since seed actually is an important PART of their diets) but never a conure breeder! Some nuts and seeds are good, but to feed an all seed diet, especially to canopy dwellers? Wow. I'm surprised that the issues they surely encounters with the health of their babies and life span of their parents hasn't tipped them off that that isn't a good idea :(

I've had go success mixing the zupreem fruity pellets and the lafeber pellets and I'm slowly weening the colorful pellets and adding more of the lafeber. For some reason my bird would not touch the zupreem naturals.:)

My conure, Cisco, came to us eating Zupreem natural. He will also eat Roudybush. He is a little stinker about eating veggies and will only eat them if we are eating them, but won't touch them if I put them in his cage. I tried Harrison's and none of mine would eat the fine, but Peanut and Sassy will eat the course. My next try with pellets will be Goldenfeast Goldenobles, I think. All of mine will eat Zupreem fruit and natural, and Roudybush...it's so confusing with all the choices!

Blue Fronted Amazon, Cookie..Sun Conure..lil Booger (RIP) Have owned Parakeets, lovebirds, cockatiels, cockatoos, pocket parrot, and quakers.
Ive experimented with several pellets and pellet seed mixes. So far the Zupreem "Natural" was the easiest for the birds to go too. Harrisons Im sure is probably a better product but they don't like the taste. Nor do I... Reason I know is that when getting birds to try a new thing I eat it in front of them which starts them begging for some as well. Heck...Id eat the Zupreem "Natural" like cereal.. it taste that pleasant and has a great "crunch". And like others have said be sure to keep plenty of fresh veggies and fruits handy for your birdie in a separate bowl. Lean well cooked meats and scrambled eggs are good as well but sparingly. I vary my birds fresh stuff to include sweet potato, broccoli, sweet peas, cauliflower, squash, cantelope, honeydew, blueberries, grapes, apple, (granny smith), carrots, jalapenos, banana, mango,...heck, about anything but avacados....
