Conure breeding

I have a pair of green cheek conures. The female is about 2.5 years old, the male is 2. I was told they've been put together since they were young, and have been together for about 1.5 years now.

A few months ago, the female laid eggs, all of which were unfertilized. She looks like she's about to lay more. I was told (by the folks who sold me the conures) that it's probably not fertilized this time either. I'm wondering at what age are conures ready to breed? Would this pair have any chance to ever have fertilized eggs?

Are you even sure the male is a male for sure? Sometimes it takes practice. The first batch may not be fertile until the second try. Make sure your providing her with calcium supplements!!! Such as cuttle bone, oyster shells, mineral blocks, etc. Meal worms are nutritious to momma with chicks. Same with sprouted seeds. When I used to raise birds, I was raising meal worms too so I raised plenty to give to my birds everyday.

Also one more thing, one of them may not be fertile period....

Yes! I've even seen females laying eggs together....Of course non are fertile cause they were both females....Do not encourage her to lay all the time, if you could, place her in a separate cage by herself if she kept laying. You have to discourage her from constant laying cause it can kill her!!! Laying eggs takes a lot out of a female bird.

Very similar situation to my own. I have a male Cinn GCC & Pineapple GCC. Last winter their 2 nests were both infertile.

I took the box away & now this winter they're on their 2nd nest. First nest 2 babies hatched, one died immediately but the other is now a cute little monster (about 10 weeks old).

My 2nd nest is 4 babies hatched with 1 egg to go.

I didn't change much between this year & last year. I do give them a mix of dried fruit, some seed, fresh fruit & frozen berries (due to high prices). Make sure they always have a cuttle bone/calcium. Hopefully with a good diet & time they'll figure it out!

Thanks a lot for the information. Your experience is encouraging to me. The female bird is laying eggs right now, I hope this time they will hatch.
