There's different styles and variety. And also different size available. It's really up to you to decide. I have the regular T-stand for large birds and I have a tree stand for small to large birds.

Have you thought about making one out of PVC piping? There are very good instructions various places and it looks pretty straight forward. I am also wanting one and am thinking of attempting to make one. I plan on asking Lowes if they can cut the pipe to my specs since I don't have a PVC pipe cutter. If they can, then it will just be a matter of putting it together. My understanding is that it is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper to D.I.Y versus buying one!

Here is a link (hopefully!) that will take you to our local bird club, The Alaska Bird Club: The Alaska Bird Club (TABC) LP. If you click on newsletters and go to the January 2009 issue there is an article on making your own T-stand. I would copy it here, but it is much easier if you see it as they do have pictures.

Let us know if you attempt to make one or buy one.

I've seen people using PVC to make them, in order to make them work is you gonna have to sand the surface to make it rough so the birds can get a better grip. I didn't go with that route cause I like the natural look. I could make it if I wanted to....

I probably over paid on my manzanita bird stand, probably a lot cheaper if I made it myself. But my partner wanted it so I said what the heck, it saves me the time to make one plus it's ready to use...lol

I am planning on wrapping mine with Jute. I like the idea of the PVC because it is so light weight. That way if you are using it for training etc. it is easily movable from room to room etc.

I'd love to have a manzanita one but they seem to be very expensive- that and being in Alaska it is very cost prohibitive for the shipping! That is the problem I am having with finding cages too... :(

Thanks for the link. I'm having trouble pulling it up. It's something with my Adobe reader..

I think I read somewhere that there are different kinds of PVC?? Some may be toxic?
Not sure where I saw it.
If you make one you can cut it yourself with a "Hack Saw"

There are three devices I plan to use:
1. A table top T-Stand. This will allow my bird to sit with me at my desk or next to my easy chair when I'm watching TV. I place a tissue underneath.
2. A roll around perch. This allows me to have a stable portable stand with food, water, and toys; as well as a tray which catches most food and all feces.
3. A playground on wheels. This is similar to the perch, but much larger. It has more room for toys, it has multiple perches; as well as food, water, and a catcher tray with a grill. The wheels are only used for cleaning beneath the playground.

Stability is an issue. If you have a large bird make sure your T-perch is stable. When your bird starts exercising its wings or when your bird darts suddenly when someone walks into the room, you don't want them knocking the perch over. It will scare the bird and make the perch useless in the future.

I'm not a big believer in natural perches due to the likelihood that the wood will become contaminated with food or feces, and that harmful bacteria will grow there. I use common dowels. I can clean them a couple of times, then I can throw them out and replace them easily and cheaply.

Theres such a thing as a steam cleaner that sanitize by using steam heat. I've got one that I use.
