Yogurt

Is it safe for a conner to eat yogurt, cheese?

My amazon likes yogurt, but only gets a very little bit, once, maybe twice a month. My ringneck loves string cheese, but very small amounts, not very often. Parrots are lactose intolerant. (correct me if I am wrong.) So small amounts, at least for my guys, don't seem to affect them.

So am I, my amazon loves to eat cereal with me in the morning, but I still don't give him the milk.

Yogurt is fine to give our birds in moderation. For some it is a great treat!

Mishka loves his yoghurt, has it as a treat before training each night, a tiny weeny bit. He does not take treats whilst training his choice.

I have given my parrots Yukult as a probotic. Even a 1 day old chick will get a drop in their formula to help kick off a healthy gut.

I used to do the samething like Pedro does. I give the chicks yogurt as well to kick off good stomach bacteria.

Found this so I wanted to bump it, I have considered giving Perjo yogurt but have not done so yet due to the concerns of galactose.

Any new definitive info on if we really should be feeding yogurt to our FIDs and if so a SPECIFIC yogurt?

Yogurt is not on my fids menu, however their vet approves mixing with meds as a medium for disguise. He also sanctions vanilla ice cream if needed, however the amount given of either is extremely small. Don't know if a steady diet including yogurt is approved.

didn't know Ice cream was allowed albeit in small amounts. I heard somewhere pro-bio yogurts (I hope that's the name for them) like Yakult are better but once again only in tiny quantities,

Yoghurt seems to be a grey area, some say yes to plain, low fat (no sugar or sugared fruit (Sally Blanchard) and others say absolutely no? I have fed Plum some, it is never very much or very often.

Cheese I am reading is a definite no, except cottage cheese. Ice cream surely a no?

Yogurt is fine for conures, also I've read on here to never give a bird milk or cheese...but then again every other person has differing ideas, after I asked about the safe foods post people were like naw I give my bird a bit as a treat all the time.

Clark loves, I mean LOVES, milk and cheese and I've never seen him in discomfort or a change in his stool, so I don't worry to much about it. Now I'm not saying replace his water dish with milk and fill the pellet cup with shredded cheese, but if he steals a bit off a pizza cheese or takes a bite of cheese stick or drinks some milk out of your cup I really don't think it hurts them in the slightest and probably gives them some good nutrients. My conure is happy and healthy.

Oh and he only gets a little maybe once a week tops. It's not an everyday thing.

Oh don't feed him like cheese whiz fake stuff or soft cheese, that isn't healthy.

But pay attention to your bird the first time, his stool and his activity.

No doubt there are many views on dairy. I'll give mine a small piece of low-fat/low salt string cheese weekly. About the size of an index-finger nail.

I believe my vet was advocating yogurt/ice cream as a medium for disguising meds when the alternative is either no dose or partial due to spitting and flicking. A very small amount, just enough to make the mixture palatable. I prefer to not restrain and force-feed oral meds via syringe (w/o needle!) unless necessary.

I've always been told unsweetened greek yogurt is okay. My mom, who is lactose intolerant, is able to eat that no problem. I've offered it to my bird before, but she's offended by it P:
