Places to Get Toy Supplies

Well, with the new DIY forum, I have certainly taken advantage of it, LOL But, I thought I would make another post for some great places to look for bird stuff.

Besided bird stores, where the toy making parts can get quite expensive, look in other places. Bird Talk magazines have a section that lists the upcomming bird shows; there, you can find hundreds of bird toys for prices that are a quarter of the store costs. Ebay also has given way to finding a large variety of bird toy making supplies that are hard to find. Typically on Ebay, you can buy in bulk- as in get 100 strands of leather for $10; or 200 plastic round beads for $5. Ebay can open up a lot of possibility for getting toy parts. Craigslist can also be a place to look around. You can post a wanted add for toy making parts for birds. This may or may not get a lot of responses, but it is certainly a possiblity! Of course, you can salvage parts from toys your bird has destroyed as well!

Walmart and Target are filled with possiblity! Go look around, you are sure to find something that your fids will enjoy! Thrift store and garage sales often hold a plethera of baskets that your baby will have fun tearing apart. You never knwo what you will find there, so always keep your eyes open wherever you are!

Before using ANY toy or toy part, ALWAYS wash it! Whether you got it off Ebay, Craigslist or from a bird fair or supplier, always wash it!

Thats a great point, I always wash everything I've bought for my fids before they are allowed it. I've seen kids handle toys with chocolate covered hands (I never buy them ones) but its something to be very aware off. You never know who has handled these toys or what they may have on their hands.

Re: Places to Get Toy Supplies

All too many times at bird fairs, a bird comes in with a disease. Someone goes and handles it, then goes and looks at a whole bunch of toys. You go and buy toys, not knowing they have been touched by someone who handled an ill bird, and your bird plays with them.

Too much risk not washing them IMO.
