I wouldn't risk it, either don't use the perch or you can just take the paint off and you wont have to worry.

Sand paper, sand blaster ect. As long as you get the paint off without using chemicals it should be fine.

I would just buy perches from a shop if I were you! They are not overly expensive to buy! apart from the Sandy Peches that I mentioned.. these are great and last for alot of Years, so worth the investment... I also have one of those Bendy rope perches in Codies Cage!

Vet wrap, it works really well.

Did I read that right? A stainless steel perch? Why stainless steel?
That would be way to slick to grip. Just get perches at the store or use natural wood with a screw and washers.

Im not going to pay for a perch besides its only for training nothing else and on top of that im not loaded with money here in the uk where i live the perches i have seen cost 100+ pounds im paying 500 for my cutie parrot i have spent over 300 already on toys and her cage is costing 187+ pounds im sure one stainless steel perch wont hurt her if wrapped the right way

I agree with the vet wrap. You can get it where they sell horse supplies, it's pretty cheap to replace if it gets too soiled and comes in all kinds of colors too. Is it a play stand type perch? Can we see pictures? We love pictures! :)

No it isn't a play stand its just a stainless steel T-perch made for training and once i have finished stripping the paint from it i will include a picture for you :) and is there any other option to the horse wrap as i live about 42 miles away from the closest suplyer

I DO hope you realize that owning a parrot is expensive. Even just feeding one is expensive if you feed them properly.

Cause i understand and maybe its a lot to keep a parrot where your from but here where i live the right pellot mix and toys are a good price only down fall is the cage prices the avian comes at a good price when insured and i have the money to give this bird what it needs plus i own 5 dogs who are well looked after and if i can aford to take care of them am sure i can do the same for this parrot so instead of trying to insult my intellagence how about giving me some credit maybe im new to owning a parrot but im not an idiot i know what it takes to take care of an animal if i didn't know what i was doing i wouldn't have bought a pet to start with

You could use sisal rope as long as it's not treated with anything. Not sure how you would attach it though.

Didn't you already have a cage from your last bird?

I'm wondering what these perches - costing more than a hundred pounds - are made off...?

Birds in the wild use trees.. they have got a good grib, they trim their nails, they also keep their beak in shape...

I think he's referring to a free-standing perch, rather than a cage perch - not that it should cost that much more. I'd personally have used spirits to clean the steel, then lightly sanded and thoroughly washed it; SS isn't exactly a porous material.
