Made it outta Grapevine, and Walnut(for the sides) for our new baby Quaker... Want to make one from a big tree about 5ft tall for our Alexandrian and the Quaker! What tree could I use??? I know it has to dry first.

American Bulldog Mix,
I think pine is okay you have to look it up. I can't remember what I made my 5 ft one from. It's so much more fun and cheaper than buying one from a store!

Why dry first? Fresh is more fun for the bird.
In Sweden we are using:
Al
Asp
Birch
Book
Hazel
Cherries
Snakehazel
Arrow
Plums
Pears
Rowan
Tall
Currants
Apple

I don't know how Google translate the trees, but I hope some of them you will recognize. But if you can find them "over there" is another question. :p

If you want to Google picture of the trees here are the Swedish names.
Al
Asp
Björk
Bok
Hassel
Körsbär
Ormhassel
Pil
Plommon
Päron
Rönn
Tall
Vinbär
Äpple

If you write "Svenskt träd" after every tree you will find them.

It's not necessary, they can handle that kind of things in the wild. You have more bacteria inside the house that is more dangerous.
But perhaps you have dirtier trees in your country?

American Bulldog Mix,
No things like animal feces, urination, pesticide, bugs, etc. Our parrots are domesticated and aren't quite as apt to living in the wild. It's a safety precaution that shouldn't be taken lightly as it can mean life or death.l

To give your bird a strong immune system from the beginning is the best thing, and then you don't need to wash or dry tree branches.

I can promise you that in Sweden we never do that and our birds are not dying or get sick. (in fact they are really healthy) But we don't have any diseases that can kill our birds either.

I give my birds fresh branches every week from mars to november.

If you are 100% certain that a tree or bush has not been sprayed with any chemicals, it is perfectly safe to give them to your bird(s), preferrably with the bark.

Of course if you see a blob of feces, I would probably pick a branch that doesn't have the added "decor", lol.

Thanks for the advice! The link for the trees stated that Crape Myrtles are poisionus? The owner of the closest bird store said that Crape Myrtle was safe and she used it for all her stands??? Who is correct? they all are in great health and most people I know have bought their birds there?
