How to make a net?

I think I will make rather than buy most toys; they are over priced for what they are: simple craft projects made from common parts that can also be bought. I also will have wood scraps from my shop, and an endless supply of bottle caps.

But I'm wondering how to make a "net"? If I buy suitable cordage in bulk, how to make a system of linked open squares? I know people have been making nets forever and they don't unravel with one break like a crocheted or knit piece.

Here's a knotting style that lets you add/expand as you want.....

I don't like that since the knots can slide around.

I did some more searching, and finally found out that besides a double knot for made-in-the-field nets, the "real" knot for netting is a sheet bend tied in the bight.

Good point on the referenced thread about the rope costing about the same as finished nets (though MSBS is out of stock), but still good for custom shape/size.
