so i got a challenge for you.... well mostly myself, but that's why i am asking for help.

see this adorable little trouble maker?

she could use some toy ideas.

however, she is a hormone monster and is easily triggered, so we cannot give her any toys that she can turn into nest material.

she can NOT have:

rope
soft plastic (or really any plastic other than acrylic)
wood
fiber type toys
shredder toys
paper
cardboard

she CAN have:

stainless steel
hard acrylic

soo..... this is the challenge. does anyone have any DIY toy ideas for my little bugger? she especially LOVES noisy toys. anything she can ring, bash, bang, smash, or generally make a racket with it. the noisier the better.

we recently had to replace her food dishes (previously plastic) because she was chewing them to pieces, so now she has stainless steel dishes. she cannot have rope perches either as she shreds them and makes nests out of the strings. she cannot have soft plastic toys, or else she chews them up and makes nests out of the broken bits. yes, she is a very determined birdie, but i am also determined to keep the eggs to a minimum. she's already laid her limit this year D:

the hormones have been kept in check very well keeping these things from her and from having her in the standard minimum cage.

but was wondering if anyone had any toy ideas for her? i plan on buying some stainless steel chain for her from MSBS when i place an order for some more pellets for them. want to make something out of that, but she is a specialized little birdie.

How about a piano?

A while back a tiny palm-sized gizmo was all the fad, a synth chip with a touch sensitive area. It was best played with a stylus stuck on the finger, which looks just like a parrot beak.

Eventually, I want to see if Diamond will enjoy the Yamaha keyboard set to "percussion" sounds. :)

What about foraging toys? Either using sand or small pebbles she can't chew?

she has a buffet ball foraging ball, which she uses, but not as much.

i cant use cotton twine either to string any toys. i cant use jute, rope, or anything like that, she uses it for nest material. so i can only use leather or stainless steel chain to hang toys, or acrylic chain too.

what kind of foraging toys could be made with these kinds of materials? she cannot have any trays either, she uses them as a nest

where could i find a bird safe mini piano small enough for a lovebird D: that sounds like an awesome fun idea if i can manage it lol

I was thinking about you filling up a tray with sand or pebbles and mixing in safe foot toys, seeds, pellets, etc... but I guess that's really out of the question now! LOL

Would be tempted to suggest the fake grass and tossing seeds into it, but knowing lovebirds, she'd probably chew it down....

My Lovebirds' favourite toys are their slinkies (one hangs vertically and the other is horizontal) and the small acrylic bangles that hang from their top perch. With the slinkies, they just love to bounce up and down and even help each other to get extra 'zing' by pulling and letting go at exactly the right moment. They treat the bangles as roman rings and do all sorts of hilarious acrobatics, including dropping from the roman rings by their feet, grabbing the slinky with their beak and then letting go of the bangles. LOLOLOLOL! Our genius, Pumpkin, figured out the game and one by one all the other Lovies have learned it from him.

she has a slinky in her cage stretched horizontally across the lower half of the cage, strung with wiffle balls with beads inside them lol

we have a fake grass mat outside of the cage, because that's something she does chew up as well and starts tucking the grass bits and finds somewhere to put them and make nests out of lol there's no stopping her D: but she can have it out of the cage under supervision lol

What about a bunch of keys stung up? You can get uncut new keys from a locksmith or key cutting place fairly cheaply!

i need them to be stainless steel, but that would be an awesome idea if i can get them :D

i found an old mini m&m's container, you know those tubes? gonna double check the size of the tube and if its not dangerous (head stuck in tube) then i will make it a foraging toy for Munch. its harder plastic, it should last a fair bit lol

the tube failed lol it cracked, but i might have another one in the toy supply bin, will have to have a look tomorrow lol

gonna be busy preparing the birdies before we leave camping this weekend. not a long trip, so they're going to be left with food and water and my father in law will stop by to care for them once a day, but i made a whole bunch of foragers for the tiels and mango, but i need something for munch to do :/

tomorrow we are cleaning and packing, so perhaps i shall find something to make something fun for her :D

If there is a shop near you that works with Plexi=glass, go there and get a bunch of scraps. You can drill some holes in diff. shapes of them and string them on SST wire, like coat hanger wire.
