Just wondering if these wood blocks look bird safe. They where for my daughter but she no longer plays with them.

I'd say no, simply because you said they are wood blocks. For the colors to be so very vibrant, I'd be afraid that the paint used is NOT meant for birdy beaks.

I agree--probably not safe. Since they're not made specifically for birds, the wood might not be safe and the paint could also be toxic. They could be safe, but I wouldn't want to risk it.

I think they're safe from what I was told before. Children have the tendency to chew on them too so they have to use safe products, that means the paint part is safe as well. Don't quote me but that was my understanding.

I would agree with MikeyTN, I buy things that are made for children for my birds assuming there are no toxins there. I buy things in the infant's section, and if it's for babies to chew on, I don't even think twice.
Do you know who manufactured this toy. Maybe you can call and ask them.
I have to be honest I worried about wooden blocks that look so bright, and passed them even if they were in the infant section.....

Same. I figure if it's been passed for human safety (ie. babies to teethe on), then it's OK for parrots. I do buy a lot of birdie toys from ebay and there are lots of things from SE Asia that probably do NOT follow the stringent safety rules in my country, so I wouldn't buy birdie or kiddie toys from there.
I'd also be careful about very old baby toys: they could have lead-based paints instead of acrylic and therefore be very toxic.

What if I sand the paint off? Might that make them a little safer? It seems shiny paint is the issue?

IF there's a doubt, why use it? If it's an unknown product, I wouldn't use it with my birds.
