When the weather outside is frightful....

We're having a dreary, DREADFUL day outside, so I decided to take the GREAT opportunity and play with hubby's power tools and get some wood cut up for the big macs. :)

THIS is what it's looking like outside. :54:

THIS is how quickly Ziva wants to come back in after doing her "business" outdoors.

So, after making a COMPLETE and utter mess in the garage (yup, I was NOT about to cut wood outside and/or pre-drill holes outside), I had a box full of THIS....100 pieces in total

Then I prepared the countertop in the kitchen (might as well make a thorough mess of the ENTIRE house while I'm at it....)

About 45 minutes later ................. :D

Then I noticed that my toy making supplies have kind of taken over our dining room..... :30:

It's all right! ANYTHING to keep my fids happy. ;) AND, my furry fellows showed me how it's REALLY done in weather like this. :D

Now I better go clean up the mess I made everywhere, including putting the tools back where I found them. :10:

looks great! your birds will be happy!

Im jealous of that snow, we dont get any here where I am, it was a rumor 2 days ago but nope.. would been the first time since 2009 >1" and 1976 >2"

Anyways, so that is those special food dyes that everybody talks about, and you used alcohol?
That looks great, nice and bright, but does it rub off on your hands?
Does it get good penetration into the wood?

What did that box of dyes cost you, and where did you get it?

Thanks for the pics!
Man im really on the fence about coloring or not coloring and what to use if I do...

I hate snow, but I love looking at it in pictures. Your toy making ability is awesome! I'm envious!

Oh please, do not be jealous of the snow. It is SO darn cold outside. I am SO ready to move the tropics, but would GLADLY settle for Florida. ;)

Here is the link for VitaCritter:
VitaCritter Info.

I don't know WHY I can't see how much I paid for them. They must be out of stock. :(

Oh I HAVE to wear gloves when I color the wood. The colors are EXTREMELY vibrant. Once completely dry, they do not really rub off. However, Ripley, my GW, has a horn colored beak, and he dunks EVERYTHING in water. The water will discolor, and Ripley HAS sported a blue and purple beak for a while. For some reason the red, yellow, orange or green don't stick to his beak.

Ok, I checked my order history, so now I know how much I paid per bottle. ;) A BIG bottle is $10.45. I only ordered 3 bottles. 1 each of blue, red, yellow. Cause you can mix the rest of the colors yourself after that. :)

I use a whole lot more alcohol than they recommend, and the colors still come out very vibrant.

My last order was placed in April, and my bottles are not even half way empty.

I go through about 100 pieces of wood a month for the big macs alone.

I hope this helped. :)

Oooh, what fun! Since aquiring my very own drill and jigsaw :) nothing is safe around me either! I also spent the day sawing, drilling and colouring wood, can you believe? But my stash is not nearly as impressive as yours :p

Beautiful pics and such cutie patootie puppies!!!

That looks like fun! If Piper was a chewer I'd be doing the same!

We've got 5-6 inches of snow here. Both dogs love zooming around the yard in it and eating it. But they're always ready to come in when I call them, lol. Cute pups :)
