I don't see pics but most if not all of home depots rope is treated so most isn't safe. To guess id its safe smell it if it smells off or like something unnatural its unsafe.

Yes, that should be just fine. I've been using it for years, and all my guys really tear it up, too.

I'm not sure what smell to look for though... I haven't smelled any sisal before.

I used it to replace the ones on my kitty scratching post. It worked well for that!

Multi functional rope for sure!

Sisal has a bit of a scent. But "treated" or "oiled" sisal downright STINKS, and is also darker in color than natural sisal.

I just got a large atom from mother pluckin bird toys and my grey was chewing the rope. So I bought this to wrap the areas he was chewing on so he wouldn't ruin his new $$ atom. I couldn't find any 1/4" cotton rope otherwise I would have used that.

If it smells oily just run a lighter over the piece you're using (lightly) burning off any residual oils and those hairlike fibers that are irritating. Just a few passes with a flame should do it

I want to bump this up after my trip to Lowe's today.

For years I've purchased my sisal there, never worrying about a thing. Well, my Lowe's now ONLY sells Bluehawk sisal, which is NOT safe to use.

Please folks, be careful when you buy sisal rope. Natural sisal almost smells like a dry cactus, while treated sisal has a distinct chemical smell, and it's also slightly darker.

Just check to make sure it's not the type that has oil in it.

The stuff purposed for outside use is oiled down to help prevent rotting. That's the stuff that isn't safe to use. Doesn't matter the brand. Check the ingredient.

And that, unfortunately, is the ONLY brand my local Lowe's and Home Depot now sells.

The good news? Rolls of the other kind are on the shelves at the local dollar store, because Lowes stopped selling them... (At least out by me.) That's where I bought my last 2-3 rolls of the stuff. And the dollar store is carrying those baby links again. (Just in time too, cuz I was out!)

Ace hardware used to carry it.

Funny I was just looking at this stuff today at my local Lowe's, the stuff smelled like it was dipped in kerosene! I didn't buy it of course!

Sisal actually holds up better than cotton in some instances.
