What a great piece of work. I have two crepe myrtles that need major trimming I guess I know the project that I'm going to do after I've done the yard work. :20:

I don't find crepe myrtle as heavy as apple wood. But then again the my branches aren't as big on my crepe myrtle as they are on my apple tree.

Empath yea its really heavy I had my sister help me hang it. and my branches I used were anywhere from 1/2-2 inches in diameter most at 1" though, I wanted to use different sizes so it was more natural!

out of curiosity Marcia, did you design it or just start sticking branches together? i can see myself just randomly joining branches till i run out of material then realise i've made a mess lol

I started with the idea of an octagon base 30" diameter and 2' high sides then just started sticking branches everywhere :p

Yeah, flyers seem to be a macaw and cockatoo favorite perch...

That really turned out nice, and it will get used A LOT!

Baxter - Illiger's Macaw (hatch date 5.1.15);

Taylor - Black capped Conure (RIP 3.14.15 - miss you every day little "Girlie")
What a great play gym! I wish I had bird-friendly trees in my yard!
