what kinds of materials are safe for foraging toys for a CAG?

I am going to make some foraging toys for my CAG, but knowing they will be (hopefully) destroyed right away, I figured it would be better to make them - then they will never run out. I was told that paper bags full of cut up straws and a few nuts are a good choice but I am concerned about the cut up straws. Are these ok? what are some other options to make foraging toys for a CAG?

I give my ekkie straws all the time. He loves them. And plastic spoons.. he'll twirl those for hours.

I also posted this thread with a basket I got at the dollar store and attached to the side of his cage. Then I just fill it with shredded paper (the carefresh crinkles are cheap) and he'll spend forever pulling paper out through the holes.

I also buy these mini cardboard chinese food containers and itty plastic shotglasses at the dollar store and stuff those full of things.

Do you live in a place with trees? Stupid Phoenix, there are NO trees around here -.- But you could stuff things with shredded bark or bird-safe leaves.

I used to do the chinese food containers as well.

If you don't mind the mess, phone books work well, and a phone book in a box is even better. (And free!)

Another hot ticket are those little dollar store pine bird houses. Best forraging toy around because it's also a chew toy. You just stuff wood, and paper and treats in the little hole. It comes on a rope, so throw a quick link on it and there you go!
