I had fun creating this little guy...

He wears an egg carton crown that cradles a rattan ball topped with plastic beads; all of which sits atop a seed pod head adorned with a food dye painted face, and stuffed with crinkle paper hair and almonds for brains.

His beastly coconut shell body is balanced out with an elegant neck ruffle made of cupcake papers, and a lovely raffle-ticket grass skirt decorated with colorful pony beads.

Chief's arms and legs are irresistible with chunks of bamboo clasping around filberts and almonds in their shells, as well as zig-zag edged cardboard and mini bagels, with Brazil nuts as hands and feet.

"He's mine."

Strrrrreetch!!

Chili's been having fun picking him apart...she's got the rattan ball destroyed, so I'm sure she'll discover his almond "brains" soon lol

Shirre, that's an amazing toy! I love it, and obviously so does Chili. Lucky girl to have a toy maker for a mommy.

Thank you everyone [emoji4]

Chili has dismantled his crown, ripped all of his hair out, ate his almond brains and viciously chewed off his "belly button" [emoji33] lol

Let's see how long he'll last...hahha

What an awesome toy, Shirre!
Sounds like Chili is watching too much TWD and has decided that the walkers are having a lot of fun:)

Shirre! Chief Coconutty looks exactly like Stephen! The resemblance is amazing (especially the green face and the big round tummy).

You should be a portrait artist. :D

Chief C. is a great toy and Chili is clearly very keen on him. Can we see the 'after' pics please? :)

Hahaha!!! Terry I know, right?! She is definitely a zombie killer- go for the brains!!! :p

Trish, I'm dying over here lol I wonder how Stephen feels about his recent lobotomy?

Chili's ripped off his beautiful neck ruffle, and I'm assuming his grass skirt is next [emoji33] lol I think I need to give her another day before posting "after" pictures lol

I made sure she finished eating her breakfast this morning before sacrificing Chief C to birdzilla, because she's been picking at him pretty much allllll day....so he's definitely a favorite of hers [emoji4]

Shirre, that has to be the most amazingly creative foraging toy I've EVER seen! Sweet!

I might have to kidnap you and put you to work for Bixby and Maya!

And as for Trish's assertion that I served as the inspiration for the chief, much as I'd like to claim the credit as Shirre's muse, I cannot. Chief Coconutty is far better looking than I, after all! Lol! (Though his recent lobotomy does close the gap somewhat, I confess.)

How did you ever come up with that?? That is so awesome. Peanut would absolutely LOVE that toy! (Sassy and Cisco would probably be afraid of it..lol)

That is great! I think I'm going to try my hand at making a toy for Buddy. How long does it take for Chili to warm up to his toys? Buddy is a chicken unless I touch it first so you know what's going to happen lol.

Aww thank you Stephen!

Hahha I bet those two love birds would have a blast with Chief C! Do you think they would fight over him though? [emoji51]

4dugnlee- thank you! I had a hard time initially coming up with the design- I had a coconut that wasn't getting eaten, so I sawed it in half and gutted the meat out (which was spoiled). Then I finally had the idea to make some sort of little dude out of it... Lol

I still have the other half, which I'm almost done with that toy- I stayed up last night working on it until I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer lol as soon as it's done, I'll post a picture- I'm pretty happy with it so far [emoji4]

Taw5106- I can't wait to see what you make!!

Chili is pretty easy going as far as introducing new things- she saw me carrying him over and immediately started going bonkers "gimme gimme gimme!!!"

I usually hang new toys on the outside of her cage so she can inspect it at her leisure, and once I know that she likes it, I'll move it to the inside of her cage. Toys that have food items go over much easier than those that don't [emoji6] lol

You could always add some treats next to/on top/attached to new toys so Buddy goes for the food ---I do this with my budgies because they think anything new will surely eat them  so I just attach some millet to whatever it is and they're happy little feather butts. Hahaha

I bought Biddy a new toy over a week ago and I've had it hanging outside his cage. Inspired by Cheif Coconutty, moved it into his cage. He's been on the opposite side of the cage since I put it in I reach in and play with me and he just looks at me like nope not getting any closer. He's such a chicken, lol!

The new toy is the pretty colorful blocks and ropes.

What's his FAVORITE treat?? Maybe tuck a couple pieces into the toy so he can see them, and then tuck a couple more pieces in harder spots so he'll have to root around in the toy to get them.

Thanks, great idea and I did it. I stuck three peanuts in it, showed him, he watched place them in his toy but no go yet. He's been eyeballing them though so I'm waiting. I started cutting a box into squares like you did. I'm going to string them like you did on the arms and legs. I'm looking for other things to include that can hold treats too. I figured I would start simple.

I'm sure he'll go for it when you're not looking [emoji6] hahaha but at least he's curious now...

Unwaxed paper cups strung up and nested make great treat holders....wiffle balls with treats stuck inside are great.... Or a brown paper lunch bag with holes punched in it, and stuff the bag with shredded newspaper and treats.

Alrighty...so here's what I made with the other half of the coconut shell:

Dino Island Fun Time

This is a fun foraging toy I made with a halved coconut shell with crinkle paper decorating the rim, and cupcake papers with almond centers that fill the inside of the coconut shell.

Hanging from the shell are strands of sisal twine loaded with various shreddable and fun items; wood squares, plastic dinosaurs, natural roots, rattan balls, loofa slices, and the occasional filbert and almond.

"For ME?!???"

Awesome, Shirre! You're amazing at this stuff. Bixby and Maya would look at my attempts at homemade toys with such disdain if they ever caught a glimpse of yours! [emoji33]
