Hanging basket

Hi all
I have a cheap suggestion for a foraging toy

Its up to you if you use the traditional coconut fibre or replace it with fabric of some kind

Taking a hanging plant basket fill with soil and shake in some of your birds seeds ( or buy various types from gardening shop)
plant these in thr soil ( very shallow ) and just wipe soil over top don't pack it down
water gently once a day
once it sprouts and you have a nice basket of green sprouts hang it in your birds cage or on playgym and let the fun begin

That sounds like such a fun idea and I will definitely do that one seeing that Spring is around the corner here by us!

Just remember to make 100% sure that the soil was not chemically treated - they treat most of our soil here in SA.

Nice idea! They sell organic potting soil in most stores. Also look into buying seeds for sprouting, human grade! Wheatgrass is a good start!

Excellent idea, just make sure that your birds aren't actually "eating" the soil instead of the sprouts, as I'm not sure how much of even organic soil would be digestible, and they may end-up with a bowel-impaction if they were to eat much of it...

I don't mean to be "that person", lol, I'm just thinking out-loud at what I would definitely see my Green Cheek doing, he eats everything...everything.

I was just about to try to find this thread post questions about the safety of this idea! I have picked up a bag of organic soil and am planning to use Abba Soak seed!
Ingredients: Thistle seed, Rape Seed, Canary grass Seed, Wheat, Buckwheat, , Millet Seed, Safflower Seed, red milo, yellow milo, Non-Viable Hemp Seed, Mung Beans, Lettuce, Seed, Salt, Potassium Iodide, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Manganous Oxide, Ferrous Carbonate, Mineral Oil, Iron Oxide, Copper Oxide, Calcium Periodate, Cobalt Carbonate, Calcium Propionate.
