Diy perch cover

Perch cover is so birds can stand on the perch comfortably.
Also SPECIAL NEEDS BIRDS where they may have problems standing/walking on perches.
Shows how the material put onto perch.
Or even make your own wide perch or platform then put the material on as shown in video.

Would it really be healthy for the bird's feet to constantly stand on something soft?
What if their get their talons caught in the fabric? Idk if it's actually fabric, can't watch the video right now, but it looks like fabric lol

Even though this may work very well for handicapped birds, I'd be absolutely horrified about using staples. I know my flock, and each one of them would find the staples. IMO they pose a huge risk.

Nice idea, but! The staples are a no no, and new carpet is loaded with nasty chemicals!

Sorry, not a great idea, IMHO.
1) Staples
2) As stated loaded with chemicals
3) Covered in poopies
4) Ingesting said carpet fibres
5) Wire brushing will not 100% break the fibre loops.
6) Who knows if standing on soft stuff is good for bird feet?

I will stick with bark covered branches, the way the Sky Chief intended birds to perch.
But you get one Attaboy for thinking outside the box.

I'm so glad to see these comments on this. I like the idea if needed but the staples gave me the shivers. That may be because I have had too many of those kind of staples break off and have gotten scratched from what is left. Then the carpet and the loops. The list goes on and has been covered above but thanks for just confirming what looked like an accident waiting to happen.

What you might consider for older or disabled birds is using a soft fabric, such as fleece and vet tape to hold in in place.

The vet tape gives an easy to grip surface and the fleece can add some softness. The best thing is, if it gets poopy or they chew on it, it's easy to remove and replace.

Bird safe leather is another nice choice (you want to know what they used to tan it), though a bit more expensive so you probably won't want to toss it. I've used it though and just scrub with a little soap or vinegar under hot water and then let dry completely, leaving it on the perch. Usually after washing it tightens up nicely as well. I only remove it if it gets destroyed or starts to loosen up. Don't completely soak it through either unless you can let it dry in the hot sun, I'd worry about mildew if it's wet through to the dowel.

Tree branches are ordinary perches aren't they?

What is wrong with the birds that they cannot use a perch properly? Missing toes? Ballance issues? Maybe if we knew the problem we could be more helpful.
