Perch sleeve for both round or flat perch

This is more for birds that can not stand walk or sleep on ordinary round or flat perches.
This perch sleeve will help SPECIAL NEEDS BIRDS having difficulties standing, walking, sleeping etc on normal perches.
It may also be something that you would put on your perches so your birds perch more comfortably.
Shows how to make flat type perch using dowel or you can use the perch you already have.

You get an A for effort, but the carpet itself is the issue! Same reasons as your previous post! A lot of new carpeting has Scotchguard! Very deadly!
In defense of the concept, with a special needs bird there are some compromises, that with the proper supervision, are needed! But the ScotchGuard threat is a show stopper! Dead baby!

This would be cute with fleece. Make a cozy perch or two with velcro/washable liners. I might try this.

You do know that Scotch Guard is a water repellent.
And there are some new carpets that have Scotch Guard on already.
But marine carpet does not have it at all.
As it is already water repellent without using Scotch Guard.

Most new carpets and furniture have scotch guard unfortunately and a few folks have lost birds due to the fumes. Thats probably the concern here. I have no idea about marine carpet, or even what it's made from or the safety of it. I would probably call the manufacturer if it were me. Find out what materials it's made from and if it's sprayed with any sort of chemical.

Vegetable tanned leather would work well. Just don't use chrome tanned, which is the most common and the bird could get heavy metal poisoning if they chewed on it.

Fleece and vet tape, as I mentioned in a previous thread is what I use for my older bird. It works well, gives good grip and can be as squishy as you want. Plus it's very inexpensive so when it starts to wear or gets dirty you can just toss it and do it again.

I also had a dowel perch that I thought seemed a bit too skinny so I wrapped it with sisal rope. You could use hemp or cotton rope too.

I think you want a more permanent solution that is fairly easy to clean and very durable. A call to the manufacturer of the marine carpet you could make. Most parrot folk try to keep it natural for their birds since they are so sensitive to chemicals and heavy metals. Most of us threw out our non stick pans, chemical cleaners and fabric softeners years ago for our birds. It's not that your idea isn't appreciated, it certaintly is nice to see someone helping out the disabled and older birds out there.

Appreciate your concern relating to the material we used on the perches. (Marine Carpet ).
Searching on PC can not find one negative thing relating to hazardous chemicals to Marine Carpet.
Of cause there are many other things we put in cages that can be hazardous as well.
All have to be aware what toys we buy as well don’t think they are regulated in the way of what materials they use to make them??
Anyway if some body can find anything negative relating to if the marine carpet is hazardous to parrots please post it up.

From my 'googling' I found that Marine Carpet 'may' be sprayed with UV protector. I have no clue what this is, or if they are all treated with it.

Ok it look like they are talking about carpets in general have seen that one.
( carpet we use has no rubber backing)
So anyway have not got large parrot that might rip it to pieces.
Other then that would recommend that use a wire brush to break the fibres up so not to get hooked on the marine carpet.
