I have recently gotten two birds on a partly seed diet. As I can't just turn their diet to pellets, I am feeding quite a lot of seeds. Every day there are a lot of empty shells from sunflower seeds and the like, I either need to throw a lot of seeds and pellets away or try to remove the inedible parts.
I have seen professional seed savers at about $100. As I expect the large part of seeds in the diet is only transitional, I thought it was too expensive.
I have instead made my own from a used 2l soda bottle and a funnel.
I then put my vacuum cleaner nozzle to the top of the bottle. I open the "valve" on the handle, so it doesn't suck that hard. I then pour the seed/pellet/shell mix down the funnel and the vacuum cleaner sucks out the shells on the way down.
Just thought someone else would benefit from my "invention"
