I'm thinking of making my own bird stand or possibly multiple stands for my birds at some point soon. I'd like to have a full sized stand for my living room and smaller tabletop one/s in my study and or bedroom so the birds have their own place in different rooms!

Have any of you guys made stands from scratch before? I'm thinking of making it from branches from gum trees because my parents have a heap of them so I can get the wood for free. For the smaller ones I was thinking of using a plant pot tray as a base but for the larger one I'm not sure what I'd use.

Also I don't exactly know how I'm going to attach everything together so if anyone has ideas of how to make it secure that'd be awesome!

Thanks!

Surf back in the DYI Forum and you will find several discussions regarding members who have made excellent stands and provided the 'How To.'

Visit your local hardware store, go to the plumbing department and ask for someone with gray hair and a thinking cap! Plastic piping connections can be sanded on the inside and create the ability for a section to turn (like a swing). Glueing or screwing the segments ('T's, 90's, 45's etc.) will create a strong structure.

Target adding natural wood (not dowels) perches.

Enjoy!

Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
Here's a photo of the main part of my birdie wonderland. The manzanita stand is store bought, but the rest is hand made.

I've made some changes to the big PVC stand, so here's a close up of what it looks like now.

Search the forum for Birdman's posts for play gym instructions. You can make this one a lot smaller simply by using smaller diameter pipe. This one was made out of 1 inch pipe, but it was made for a macaw, so the larger pipe was good. Smaller birds would do well with 1/2 or 3/4 inch pipe depending on species.
