(I hope this is okay here? Not specifically selling just looking for feedback. There's a lot of pictures so it'll be split into two posts.)

So as some of you may know, I recently fired from my job in a very... unprofessional manner. Since then I have been looking into starting my own business making bird toys (and maybe in the future bird food / dried veggie/fruit mixes and treats and such). I've been making prototype toys and I want to know what you guys think of them.

Materials: Balsa wood, wooden shapes dyed with food coloring, jute rope, and craft foam sheets, coffee filters died with food coloring, wiffle ball, bamboo.

Toy #1: (Insert creative name, suggestions?)

Best for conure sized birds. Suitable for smaller birds too however it’s on the larger side so if your bird is intimidated by larger toys it may not be suitable.

Toy #2: Balsa Swing

A perch suitable for medium sized conures such as suns and smaller.

Toy #3: Foam Bows

A soft foam toy for light chewers. Suitable for medium to small birds.

tumblr_prkpw7z93I1w1hxfy_1280.jpg

Toy #4: (Insert creative name) Medium

A toy with a variety of shapes and textures from hard to soft wood and all different shapes if wood. Suitable for larger conures and smaller birds that don’t mind big toys.

Toy #5: (Insert creative name) Small

Hard and soft wood with a variety of shapes. Suitable for small conures to budgies.

Toy #6: Standard Puff Ball (Large)

A rather large puff ball for your birds shredding delight. Size wise it’s most suitable for a medium sized bird, but if your little birds aren’t intimidated by big toys it would be great for them too. Can come in all colors of the rainbow.

Toy #7: Lovestuck Dangler (Still working on that one… any suggestions?)

Packed full of wood for your bird toy chew on to it’s hearts content. Suitable for smaller birds such as conures and budgies. Comes in three different colors as of now, more available in the future most likely.

Toy #8: Starbell Foot Toy

Star? Barbell? Get it? A simple foot toy for the birds who like to toss their toys around.

Toy #9: (Insert name) Foot Toy

A simple foot toy. Not much to be said about this one.

Let me be the first to say, Wow! Very creative and beautifully done. These look as good or better than most of what I see in the stores. Very nice! My attempts at toys are functional re-habs of old ones. They get used, but aren't so pretty like these. I vote YES!

Thank you all so much ;v; I think I'll build up some stock and then open up my etsy shop. (PM me if you want a link, once I have some more spending money I'll probably send it this sites way so I can advertise here)

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
They are creative and well balanced! Will you attempt stringing some toys on thin chain? I only ask because many of my flock loves to thrash toys with rope by chewing the upper sections and forcing them to the ground!

I can do that Scott! I just need to find a source for stainless steel chains and wires and such. So they'll probably come in the future.

They look super cute--- as a prospective buyer, one of the things I do consider is where the toys are stored in relation to other birds. If you are starting a business, that might be something to consider.

They look great though!

Toys are currently stored in my living room which is on a separate floor than the birds but they're around dogs (although the dogs have no access to them)

In the future though I will be hopefully be moving in the basement where I would have more space to make a workshop except it would be in the same room as the birds kind of. It would be split into three rooms. The bird room, work room, and bedrooms. but they're still next to each other if that makes sense. The birds will have no access to them however.

Noodles has a valid point. One thing you may want to do, just to cover your own butt, is to do a full workup on Apollo and Lincoln. I'm not saying just your yearly wellness check, but full check for all the big baddies PBFD/ABV/NCD etc. I can say that even without expecting anything wrong, running those can be nerve wracking waiting for results, but in your situation it can save you a lot more stress later on. You don't want someone later on to try and say that your toys gave their bird a fatal disease because your own birds are in the same place. Just a way to help protect yourself and having the tests run, while not cheap, are cheaper than trying to rent a separate space for your toys and supplies right now.

There are certain diseases that can be asymptomatic and spread via feather dust (so in a home with central air, it can travel throughout the house). That is why testing really does make sense if you plan to make toys within the same home.
You are making great toys, so to protect yourself and other birds, I would definitely get any birds in your home tested before selling online.
