Hi i have just got a Kakariki and Iā€™m wanting to make some perches for its cage and Iā€™m wondering would the wood they sell in aquarium and reptile shops be ok to use?

What part of the world are you in? There are many trees that you can make simple perches from! Using only parrot safe wood, go for live branches! You must be absolutely sure the area has never been sprayed! A mistake here can kill your companion! Maples are safe, Avocado is deadly!

Hello and welcome. Glad you joined us. You should be able to find an assortment of ready to use perches of appropriate sizes for a kakariki at any pet supply shop that carries products for birds. If you want to make your own custom perches as mentioned above please choose your materials wisely and be sure the trees have never been treated with chemicals of any kind. The following link has yet another list of safe and unsafe woods if you scroll down to a post by weco.

Please share photos of your kakariki and the perches you buy or the ones you make.
