Dropping question....help please

Can changing your birds diet cause diarrhea????? When Oliver first came home he had perfect beautiful rich green solid poops. Now however they are a kind of creamy green or brown and they are diarrhea no solid tube shape at all. We go to the vet tomorrow to get antibiotics for a bacterial infection and possible fungal infection. Could the infections be causing the diarrhea? We have been introducing a lot of new foods as well. Any input would be appreciated.

Food can really change the droppings...especially if there is a lot of water content in them or rich colors....at least you are taking him to the vet and the vet can help put your mind at ease.
Are you introducing the foods slowly so you can see how the droppings change with each new food? Keep us updated.

Lettuce is one of the foods that give diarrohea.

mylah had a fungal infection and it made her poo go bad and the anti-biotics will too

We introduced canalope to his diet and as he was previously to the best of my knowledge only on pellets and formula, most of what we introduce is new to him. He gets corn, carrots, green beans, cucumber or zuchini, pomagrante, and apple. I recently traded the apple for canalope and he ate a lot of it. I think watching me eat a lot of it inspired him. I gave him a couple pellets this morning and no canalope to see if that would firm up his stools. Hopefully it works...

Oh he also gets a bean mix recommended by the vet and brown rice sometimes... He didn't really care for this so its been a day or two since it was offered.

There you go, he is getting some things with a lot of water content.....sounds like he is on a good diet though...good job.

Happy to report Oliver's droppings are back to normal now... will definately be cutting back on the cantaloupe (as corrected by Pat sorry sometimes my spelling is awful.)

We started Oliver's first round of antibiotics did well getting him to take them, but I have this terrible feeling that tomorrow's dose is going to be a lot more difficult to give.

give him a bicky or treat straight after the anti-biotics otherwise he will learn to spit it up then you have no idea how much he's getting i'm not sure what kind of plants you can get your hands on but when mylah was having all the anti-biotics we were told to give her bottlebrush or gravillea flowers the natural medicine in them seemed to help a lot. dont let the vets give you to many anti-biotics we nearly lost mylah she had no good and no bad bacteria in the end from all the anti-biotics she had

He's on metronidazole, baytril, and fluconazole... his dose this morning went even better than last night amazingly and he got some pomagranate afterward. I was wondering if adding some plain yogurt to his diet would be a good idea to keep a healthy amount of bacteria in his gi tract? I didnt ask the vet about it but i know they can have small amounts of plain unsweetened yogurt and was wondering if anyone else thought it would be a good idea?

mylah was on baytril for a long long time, we just gave her a pro-biotic powder that was added to her food and water, i'm not sure about yoghurt
