Hi all, first post here, just found this forum and lots of good info. My wife and I decided on an Eclectus for our first "real" parrot besides some budgies we've owned and we picked him out last weekend. 4 month old male down to 1 feeding a day. We've been down to the store for bonding time twice now and he is definitely more skittish than some of the other parrots there but not agressive at all and if he does bite it isn't hard at all, more just mouthing than anything. We did our research and we expect him to be like that until he gets to know us, hopefully he'll be well on the way by the time we take him home.

Name is Braeburn, like the apple (wife named him, no idea lol).

He is beautiful, I love ekkies. Their diet is very intimidating. Are you up for it? Good luck, more pics please.

I think Braeburn is a great name! Although they are reddish-gold instead of green, but still works. :) Beautiful! Yes more pics!

As for the skittishness, that will go away after some solid socialization at home. Ekkies are similar to greys in they don't like a lot of change. :) One small piece of advice, for free of course, do not let them get "beaky". That can lead to larger real bites as they get older and is harder to train out of. When my young senegal gets all beak happy, I pick him up and put on his cage/stand etc until he calms. Excluding the beak grabs they do when they are climbing on to your hands, as they get more agile and able, that should stop. At least it did on my B&G.

Well he just gets "beaky" for basically no reason, probably because he is nervous. We are going down to visit him again tomorrow and hopefully he is a little more calm after awhile but if not then we'll keep on trying.

How exciting......congratulations. He is so pretty and I like the name...it is original......
Is it possible that he could be a little more skittish because of his surroundings....you mentioned a store so I can just imagine the number of people that come in and out....he will be calmer when he gets home....post more pics when you can...he is a beauty....

Congratulations... he is very pretty... his beak will turn all corn yellow as he matures.
I do love Eckies... as stated their diet should be about 80% veggies, 10% maintenance pellets and 10% fruits.
Read all you can on the internet and do not be afraid to give him new things to try.
If he does not eat them now then try as he gets older. Remember he is a baby and Fids are just like real kids... kind of picky when they are young.
Since you are getting him from a store and he is out in the public I would make sure you get a health guaranty and take him to a good Avian Vet and have all the blood work done. Since he is exposed to other birds and other people that might have birds you want to make sure he does not have any underlying symptoms.
He will be kind of reserved when you get him home while he is getting use to his new surroundings. Please make sure he has a large cage.. Eckies like to climb and explore. Abby's cage is like the one on the left side of your picture and she has a play stand.
Also one thing I would do first is to make sure you stick train him to step up on a stick when you want to get him out of his cage, this will prevent the nipping at the hands. Then when you have him out of the cage you can get him to step up on your hand. This is also helpful when you are trying to get him back in his cage and he does not want to go.
Work with him all you can, have patience he is a baby. They are very smart and will make you laugh with their antics...
I am by no means an expert but if you have any questions on diet or anything else just pm or email me.
