The first thing I would do since this is a baby that doesn't seem to be eating much is take him to the vet IMMEDIATELY to rule out any medical issues. Also, have you been weighing him. If you have then that should give you a better indication as his weight should be going up and not down.

A bird not eating is a serious thing because a bird not eating is a sign of illness. How long have YOU had this bird and have you hand fed or hand raised a bird before?

I must add here that we are not vets so any information that you get here will only be suggestions as to what the problem could be. Even a vet will not give you medical advice without seeing your bird first and will tell you to seek medical treatment as soon as possible. With the monetary investment that we have in our birds, not to mention the emotional investment (the big thing for me) a vet trip should be the very first thing you do. Like the old saying says " An ounce or prevention is worth a pound of cure".

So PLEASE take your little guy to the vet and let us know how it goes.

Criddle, I doubt there is much wrong health wise with your girl just the change over of hand rearers. Some babies do this. Eclectus don't like change & are very shy at 8 weeks, although i must say that food is their favorite.

Have you checked the temp of formula, if she was spoon fed or crop fed? Get the breeder to show you exactly what they do when feeding a chick. Good Luck.

I might add even though we are not Vets as Mike has mentioned, there are some very knowledgable breeders on this forum that has the experience to help in this situation. I must also warn that at 8 weeks it's a bit young to be wanting to wean although not unheard of. You could also try to cut her formula down to 2 feeds a day & offer her heaps of soft foods such as corn, sprouts, fruit & veg cut into small pieces.

Hope this is helpful.
