Lightbulb How do you bathe your ekkie?

I'm a new Eclectus owner (adopted him a few weeks ago) and the previous owner said she would bathe him by lightly spraying him with a garden hose outside... So I've been doing the same thing but Rio doesn't like it!

How do you guys give your Ekkie a bath?

Re: How do you bathe your ekkie?

if the bird don't like it, don't do it!!! lol

i have tried alsorts with the nut, spray bottles, childs watering can and we have finally settled with her sharing my bath or showers!!!

so when you next have a bath etc take rio in with you and let him watch to begin with, nut was always interested, but very skittish about bathing, she will not get in on her own! but that is my next thing to get her to bath on her own, but she needs to be more confidant of being in the bath (she does not like the sink?)

Re: How do you bathe your ekkie?

Wow I have never thought of sharing a shower or bath. I suppose if he sees me getting soaked maybe he'd want to join in. Thanks for the reply!

Re: How do you bathe your ekkie?

lol taylor it to rio, as it took a while for nut to decide she was safe with me in the bath etc, but she really did not like the spray bottle (even when filled with warm water) so if rio does not get wet 1st, 2nd, 3rd time it's not a huge thing, the main thing is that rio starts seeing water as fun!

be prepared for rio to be scared of the sound of running water!! nut hated the sound of the shower at 1st, little introductions to anything new is good, now bath/shower time is another activity we share, she did go in bath with my man, but his got skin tags she tried removing!!! LMAO i shouldn't really laugh, but just becarefull getting naked infront of rio

do not use any soaps etc they just need wetting

Re: How do you bathe your ekkie?

I take a shower with mine. He loves it. He even knows the word "shower" and gets all excited.

Re: How do you bathe your ekkie?

I got my 3 year old second hand Eclectus a week ago. He hadn't had a bath in awhile and it was evident by his feather condition. He used to take a bath on his own, but he BFF passed away 4 months ago and that stopped. His previous owner said she tried misting him and he didn't like it so she stopped.

He was dusty, started to pluck around his legs and over preened his tail and flight feathers. So Last Wednesday, I decided to take him in the shower with me. BIG MISTAKE, he nhad a flyin duck fit, flopping around, slipped off my arm and the only thing that he was holding on to was my bracelet with his beak that was on my wrist. I tried grabbing him, but he went down in the tub, fortunately feet first.

I should have slowly introduced him to the shower thing, but turning on the water and letting him sit in the bathroom and watch me in the shower having fun before I traumatized him. Now, if he's on my arm and I'm heading to the bathroom, he starts screeching and tries climbing up my arm.

Like the old saying says, hind sight is always 20/20.

I also tried the misting bottle thing and that didn't work either. He hated it.

Re: How do you bathe your ekkie?

I have a five year old rescue and I spray him with a water bottle. I want to eventually get him in the shower. Baby steps for us!

Re: How do you bathe your ekkie?

I have a little perch that sits on the floor of the shower towards the back. When I introduced them to the water, I sat them on the perch without the water hitting them, then I slowly got the water spray closer. Now, they open their wings and flap and after I take my shower, I hold them under the water with my hand over their heads like a little umbrella.
At first they weren't sure of it, and now they argue over who gets to go.
