Hello!
I just got a eclectus male.It is supposed to be 6 months old. He is screaming quite a lot when he sees me not too loud but anyway, when i go away he stops.. If he screams very loud for a long time ill give him food and it stops. The thing i am worryed about is that he propably isnt weaned really well. But he is already 6 months so i dont know what should i do. I live in China and things are a little different here. He is eating really well all kinds of fruits, beans, vegetables and some seed.
Another thing is that when i close lights and go to bed he starts climing aroung the cage and does that for about 15 minutes.

I have been ignoring him when he screams and i hope that helps.Other than screeming his a really nice boy, he steps on my hand on command poops only only when on his toilet and he even goes there himself =)。 He has also started talking.

Thanks for your help!

you may just have a loud bird??

his screaming when he see's you is because he wants to be with you, as in very near or on you,

lots of toys in the cage, you may have to teach him to play with some so he knows what they are there for, this way he can entertain himself in time

as for the climbing at night, my bird does that before settling

play with him at the same time each day, stick to a routine, in time they will be slightly more patient :) nut is caged till about 3/4 pm each day, and each day near 3pm she will start to get my attention etc to be let out

Sorry i strongly disagree with routine especially when it comes to eclectus. They really don't need routine. At 6 months he is very much a baby & it is now you have to reinforce good behavior. I never ignore my babies. When my babies call i call back, with words like "I am here or What's up" use the same words so they know your around. Don't go running to see what's the matter. feed at different times, I feed mine anywhere between 7 - 9 AM & they are let out of their cages at any time i choose. I know how hard it is give a young parrot tough love but it does work.

The reason they call at this age is because they need to know where their human flock is or they are hungry. Try not to reinforce negative behavior though. I am sure this is only a stage he is going through & once he has settled into his new environment & you both build trust things will be a lot better.

basically don't reward his bad behaviour wait until he is being quiet then feed him i have found with mylah she demands stuff we wait until she settles and give her what she wants when we want its just like a kid going through terrible 2's lol but i don't think they grow out of it!!

I have discovered new behavior he is doing. when i put my finger in the cage he thinks it as something that gives him food and starts moving his head fast up and down trying to swallow food i would be giving him.He wants me to feed. him is that behavior of a six months old eclectus?

Thanks

Can he eat on his own, or are you still hand feeding him?

he can eat on his own but i think he likes being fed. I hand fed him today cuz he was screaming constantly and now he stopped. I wonder why he isnt eating enough by himself?

Babies will still beg, but you should NOT handfeed him unless he isn't eating on his own and if he's losing a lot of weight!!!! My newly weaned babies still beg but I don't reward their begging by handfeeding since they're eating on their own and the weights are at a proper level. Your trying to encourage him to grow up not putting him back into baby stage. Like it was mentioned by Pedro, don't ignore their calls. I always respond back to them as well. We don't have a set schedule in feeding or taking any of our birds out and they all behave just fine! Babies screams more especially when there's only one!
