Hi there,
I have just got a 2nd ekky aged 2 yrs old, he is clipped and has always been clipped. Our other ekky is fully flighted, so I don't know much about clipped wings.
I was told by the previous owner that he has never flown, we taught our other ekky to fly when we got him at 14 wks old, so this maybe a very very slow process for a 2 yr old and I believe he may not be a great flyer, possibly ?
My question is how long would it take for his flight feathers to grow back ??
Thank you,
Robyn

When I got Auggie he was clipped - I think it was a few months before he had his wings back. But I suspect it depends on where they are in a molting cycle.

When we got our ekky she was clipped and it took close to 6 months before she was fully flighted.

You won't want to act on this, but.... when I was in comparative zoology class the professor said that if a bird gets a feather yanked out it will start to regrow a new one immediately. but if the feather is cut it stays in until its normal molt out cycle, which can take a while.

I got my bird about a month ago he basically had no tail. The previous owner said he'd broken it off trying to fly. the vet checked him out and said he could see some tail feathers starting to come in. Now within the last week or so he has two very nice tail feathers just sort of popped in like umbrellas opening up or something. One day no tail and the next he had those.

When we got rani she was fully clipped and had never learned to fly. After a couple months she would sit on top of the cage and flap her wings. We would hold her and help her flap wings and the force her to fly, it took her a while to get sense of direction.initially she would get very tired and hit the wall always. Now she flies to the person she wants and guess what when we send her back to the cage she makes a u-turn and comes right back lol.

Learning how to fly she broke quite a few tail feathers. This week we have noticed that she is molting a quite a bit and I can see some new baby tail feathers coming out. I had to hold her upside down to see them still.

I just adopted a 4 year old orange wing amazon and I had his wings clipped at a local bird store. The owner is very experienced and does the clipping and nail trims at no charge! He said to bring him every 12 weeks. My other amazon that I had previously never really got clipped that often but then again I didn't pay much attention as he had no interest in flying so I did it more as a just in case rather than a necessity.

Hi haven't been on for some time, sorry,I first came on with rainbow our new conure plus sky our Quaker parrot who is now 4 years old.the conure nipped sky the first day.so they stay away from each other.late last year sky caught rainbows claw.good job for cornflour. My first question is will they never be friends. They do fly on each other's cages and each don't go screech to fight they just ignore or just watch. My second question is sky is moulting and has new shafts coming down with a feather on the end.looks like a dart at the moment.he has the small shafts on his back coming too. He's still playing and eating.i think it's his second or third week. I have seen him moult before but not like this.cant put a picture on any ideas please. They both have plenty of fruit and veg. Seed before nighttime.
