I am currently parrotless but hope to be owned by a parrot in the next few months. :-)
hi all, I want an Eclectus and was wondering if you could tell me how long yours is. Are males bigger than females? I've goggled this and found different lengths and answers. If anyone can, I would appreciate pictures of one on an arm or elsewhere just so I can get an idea of size.

Thanks in advance :)

The size of the eclectus depends on the sub-species. The pic is of a young Red Sided male. Males are a little more streamline than the hens.

GREAT CHOICE :) We have a solomon island eclectus and are in love with him. He is quieter than our ringneck. Such a sweet and peaceful guy :) They are slightly smaller than than the other sub species of ekkis. He is 12-13 inches in length from head to tail. We chose a male because we rheard that in the wild and pairs the females are the more dominant of the two, while the males are more easy going. Everyone who has a female loves them though:) I would like to get one down the road to have the best of both worlds :)

I have a Vosmaeri Eclectus and they are slightly longer than an Solomon Island. All Eclectus are great birds that talk but do not sqwuak their heads off all day.

1 Eclectus Parrot (Ezmerelda), 1 Patagonian Conure (Peanut)
My female SI is roughly about a foot long. She is honestly the perfect bird for us. She will chit chat with herself and the Patagonian conure that we now have all day. Unless she sees me cooking her dinner she is a perfect little lady. She does love her food however, and will get rowdy when she knows I am bringing her dinner to her. I think Eclectus are amazing birds, and would love to get myself a male at some point, because I hear they are a little more cuddly than my girl. She isn't a cuddle bug, but will sit on my lap for hours if I let her. Sorry that is more than you want to know, but I sure do love my ekkie.

The girls I've seen are a bit more sassy like mine as the boys I've seen are much friendlier. But my boy is a alarm system that sounds off the alarm if a stranger walks in. He scares away visitors cause he really screams high pitch until they leave. Then he's back to his normal self, very quiet most of the time. Rather talk and make funny noises more then scream. Wonderful birds!!

Thanks for the photo. I want a female Vos Eclectus. Not sure if those are a litter bigger or smaller or what?

I have a male SI and he is about 12" from head to tail. My boss has a female SI that is about the same length, although she is stockier in appearance.

I love eclectus parrots. Great choice! I have heard back and forth about which sex makes the better pet. In my experience the males tend to be a little more easy going while the females tend to have a little more 'tude.

Either way, they are so unique and beautiful birds. I'm sure whichever you get you will enjoy.

Vosmaeri are smaller then red sided. Longer tail feather with yellow underneath. They're quite pretty.
