The bird store owner raises lots and lots of birds, and I really enjoy going in there to play with them. He has a pair of breeding eclectus' that are so so so so beautiful, but are not tame. I love the way they look, their eyes are so cute and their feathers look more like hair. And that beautiful beak!! :) so cute.
Well I asked him today where the female was and she is in the box with her new eggs!
oh dear.....
I just got Clifford. Why couldn't they wait a little bit longer to have babies so I would be more prepared? It is really hard for me to say "yes, I want one" because I am still not a pro with the birds I have, but at the same time I feel I have made TONS of progress with Clifford. It will be a WHILE before I could take one home and I could pay a deposit and if it doesn't work out he will give it back to me no questions asked.
But I think I better wait for a while, I may never be the perfect parront, but before I bite off a big responsibility like that I should make sure I can handle it, and be the best parront I can be.
What's your opinion? I haven't done much research on eclectus' because until he told me there were going to be babies I never thought of getting another bird.
This love for birds is like being addicted to drugs....gosh :)

I know what you mean, every time I go to the pet store there is always one bird that just says "take with you". Eclectus are more work than a conure, they need more specialized diets. I say if you really want one do all of your research, read everything you can get your hands on, then if you still want one after that, then you can go find a baby. But I wouldn't go for those babies you are talking about, you haven't done your research yet, who knows mabey you wont want one when you read about them. I have been reading about them for months and I know I want one, so I am saving up for one.
If we all got the birds that were cute at pet stores, we would all have hundreds of birds. I might have millions, lol.

Once you get a hang of it, it's really not that complicated. The major factor is providing fresh food and beta carotene is essential within their diet. I personally stay away from pellets cause the extra additives can do more harm then good for ekkies.

Well if the hen has not long laid, there could be a 4 to 5 month wait until a baby is ready.Hehehe.

Eclectus are the easiest parrot to care for. The only problem most owners have is working out their behaviour. As I have told Sadie their diet should be well balanced & all foods in moderation, oh & they like variety as well, bit like us really. You can't go wrong.

The worst you can get from an eclectus parrot is a bite. But usually they are the most adorable parrot to have. They are not needy & can entertain themselves if their owners set the boundaries.

I'm right with Pedro there. Gracie bit me once because she was eating her seeds and I bother her. She will allow my partner whom she adores, touching her even she's eating, not me. But she's fine with me when she's not eating. JoJo loves me dearly though. He prefers to stay with me anytime. I just love ekkies very much, one of my favorite species of birds.

4-5 months is a while, and the toughest thing about them is their diet, but I eat the same way, so no big deal there. Sigh. I guess ill see how Clifford adjusts and how his first vet visit goes and if he's happy and healthy there will be no reason not to get a new baby! Thanks everyone.

i finally got one about a month ago n i love her so much best thing i ever bought!
if you eat lots of fruit n veg (like i do) feeding them is no problem! just think variety. and read as much as you can. i also read about all the different sup species before i knew which one i really wanted! if you love them enough having one is no effort at all!

I think you would be a wonderful parront to an ekkie :) their diets are different, but not impossible to cater for, they just require a bit of extra thought and preperation, thats all :)

I used to think the same (I love ekkies, that was the type of bird I originally planned to get!) until I got chomped by one. Oh boy, those beaks!

I'd still love to have one, one day anyway, though :)
