So we have been wanting to add another bird for sometime now and now Rome has a baby brother. It was a little unexpected but we now have a four year old solomon male eclectus. His name is Romeo, so we're probably going to change it, thinking either eli, emmet, or pickels. We are his third home and so far he seems super sweet. He does barb his feathers but not to bad, good pics soon to follow.

Thanks, we didnt get gome until 9pm with him last night and i didnt want to put him to bed :11:. When we first went to see him i moved a little to fast and he did nail me, didnt break the skin. He was looking at me like 'you didnt give me a chance to warn you'. After the hour and half car ride home he seemed to warm up to us. When we got home he was hanging out with tommy while i got his cage ready. He started grooming tommys arm hair :D. After he ate, hes a very messy eater (Rome is a very tidy eater, hardly ever makes a mess) he dives into his food, i tried taking a paper towel to wipe his beak (because of course princess always gets her beak cleaned after eating) and he grabbed it and ripped it to shreds. Cant wait to see how he'll like the phone books. I cant wait to wake him up, nither bird knows theres another one here.

Maremiller, i have been looking at eclectus lately. Spritbird put up a post that has really stuck with me about when mixing birds in one household to pick from the same continent. Both of these are from the solomon islands. I researched their personality traits and i really feel that hes a good match for Rome. It was cool seeing him at his previous home. She had another male solomon and they both acted ecactly text book what i have read.

Riomom, oh heavens no i wasnt taking the too. I couldnt have a large male too in the house when ive got a female. I was supposed to take th GW. Thats up for debate right now with tommy and i, so we'll see. It would break my only add one bird year rule. So im not sure.

The only thing that scares me (other than him not liking it here) is his diet. She considered them high maintence because of the time it took to prepare his food and the array of food that he requires, when i explained what life was lime with an M2, she was like yeah you'll be fine.

Yeah im already in love. Other than his quietness (not voice but the way he moves) hes completely different. I found him on craigslist and i had to drive to ormond. There is one in leesburg but that one needs ALOT of work (not that i wouldnt have done it but the guy wouldnt lower the price and he was asking a bit much for a bird that needed a lot of rehab work). They are hard to find. Ive seen some females but i didnt want a female. This one the woman just wanted him to go to a good home :) . She only had him for six months and never planned on keeping him. She rescued him from a house with eight kids, one of which would kick his cage constantly. When i saw his pic here was an instant connection and i fell in love with him when i saw him, so she rehomed him to me.

I will say they have the strangest scream ive ever heard. He would flock call at his previous home and thankfully we happened to be there when he did (def a tolorable sound).

Yeah, I saw the ad for the Male Ekkie in Leesburg. He looked like a well maintained bird with just a little plucking around his neck. But then again, I don't know how old the pic is either. How much was he asking for him and and what do you mean bya lot rehabing? You will get a kick out of him when he gets his nails done, if he's like Macky, he will scream like a little girl.

I would be a little careful with him, most male ekkie's that I have seen which aren't many, is they tend to gravitate towards men more than women as far as being the dominate figure. They are for the most part quiet birds except for a flock call or scream that can pierce an eardrum. They also have one of the clearest voices of most of the birds that I have heard. Mac has a vocab of at least 100 words and at least 25 phrases. Like "Want some fresh water" "Peek a boo, I see you", "Be right Back".

Yeah, in his previous home he bonded to the man. His original home he was handled almost exclusively by a woman. So we will keep an eye on that. Even though in the previous home he bonded to the man, he was still sociable with the wife. I cant wait to here him talk, she said he is a closet talker and gets quiet when you enter the room.

The one in leesburg, he wants $600 for him. Its not too bad of a price (hes still young, 7yrs but Tommy will not allow me to 'buy' a re-homed bird that needs work - hes okay if we were to pay an adoption fee at a rescue but not buying) and hes only had the bird for around 5 months. When that person got the bird he was already a plucker and the birds original home had him on a extremely poor diet - pretty much nothing bud budgie seed mix and cereal :11: and from what I understand the bird was handled much for around a year before he got him. The guy whos selling him right now says he has taken him to the vet but hasn't gotten any blood work done (which runs me $300 at my vet - and with how horrible a diet he was on I would want to get that done asap). Also the bird has learned that he can intimidate people. Everyone in the house is terrified of the bird except the gentleman in the house, thats why hes being re-homed. He seems like a real nice guy on the phone.

Kudos :D eclectus are awesome.
and they are VERY messy eaters lol, mine only eats half of what i give him and shakes the rest off of his face onto the wall. we got a perspex cube with a perch in it for him last year. works a treat and he loves being in it because he knows it means he can eat with us anywhere in the house. ^-^

Ahhhhh, that is a shame. I thought he might have been a one owner. But these days that is a rare thing with birds older than 2. A lady on the east coast was looking for a male Eclectus a couple of months ago and I forwarded his Craiglist ad to her. If they only have had him for about 5 months, they must have decided shortly after getting him that it wasn't going to work out because I have seen this ad for at least two months if not three. He's also advertised on Ebay classifieds.

I also don't believe in paying for a rehomed animal unless there are very special circumstnaces involved because most have some sort of issues. If I want a bird with issues, I would adopt from a rescue center. Hopefully the owner of the bird in Leesburg will drop the price on him enough for a bird flipper to buy him. The few bird flippers I'm familiar with literally take the time to rehability the birds by resocializing them, getting all the vet stuff taken care of before offering them to be rehomed. These types of bird flippers, I have no issue with because they actually take the time and money and invest it in their birds. So if they ask a little extra for their birds, it's worth the extra money.

Here are his pics! We've decided on Rocco, Tommy wanted to name him so its official - he doesn't want to admit it but I think this is going to be Tommy's bird :52:. Which I kind of had a feeling when we went to go look at him, Tommy didn't want to put him down. Got a pic of him already being naughty climbing down from his perch to steel some toast off of my breakfast plate. Hes so cute. We had a visitor come by this morning and Rocco tried to join in on the conversation we were having :D. He has a HUGE appetite for such a little guy. I never realized just how big Rome really is until now, hes half her size. I have never seen them outside before, his green is iridescent so beautiful.

Awwwwww, he's definately a cute guy for sure. He seems to have been well cared for. Eclectus are prone to feather chewing more so than plucking. I'm trying to break Macky of that habit and it's a touch and go battle.

There for awhile, Mac was beginning to leave his feathers alone and allowing his tail fathers to grow back. But ever since January, my wife and I started going out 3-4 mornings a week for 4-5 hours at a time and ever since then, he's been overpreening again. I think he suffers from Seperation axiety because before January, one or both of us were home with him almost constantly.
